A SNOWY SWEDISH HOLIDAY!

December 24, 2012

Coastline in Gothenberg, Sweden in winter
TE’s amazing photos of the Swedish coastline. (above)

It is Christmas Eve morning. A rainy cold Christmas Eve here in Los Angeles. A little weather finally! We are so accustomed to sun all of the time that a little rain feels like we are in a huge snow storm here!

I definitely equate snow with Christmas. I don’t think I’ve ever had a white Christmas as I was born and raised here in Southern California.

TE sent me these gorgeous winter photos just a bit ago. TE is in Gothenberg, Sweden visiting his famiy for the week. A Christmas holiday in the EU!

I guess TE’s been out on a walk there today in an area called Saro Vasterskoog…along the dramatic coastline. Snow, the ocean, ice and trees…something so peaceful and striking about these scenes.

I wonder what it would be like to spend a Christmas in a stunning snowy setting?

Frozen coastline in Sweeden with trees and tall grass
Coastline in sweden with snow and a life preserver flotation device
Tidal pool frozen solid off the coast of Sweden in winter
Swedish coastline in winter with dark trees, footprints in stone and still water
This is my favorite…love the dark trees and the footprints in the snow and the glassy water…something so mysterious and moody about this one. (above)

Thank you TE for sharing these beautiful photos.  Can’t wait to see more of them when you get back!

Dear readers…are you spending your holiday in the snow?  Where will you be?  I’m running late.  Going to flower mart then have to rustle up Christmas Eve dinner for 8 people.

Happy Monday!  Happy Christmas Eve!

xo

Lovely photos, Gothenburg is my home town! 🙂 I can’t imagine never having had a white christmas, but being so used to sun sounds pretty ideal :).

A great parquet floor doesn’t just ground a room. A great parquet floor doesn’t just ground a room. It tells you everything about the history of the space. The patina, the pattern, the way light moves across it. These are the rooms that prove good bones never go out of style.
What’s your favorite parquet pattern?

Designer Emma Donnersberg took her own Paris apartment in the 7th arrondissement and used it to rewrite the rules — classical bones, contemporary everything else. Her Wave Sofa and U&Me Table anchor the living room in organic curves. In the kitchen, a green ceramic-wrapped island does the heavy lifting for color against all that neutral stone. And the dining room? A Carrara travertine fireplace that turns stone into the whole point of the room.
Curved, curated, and completely hers. 🤍

A little peek at one of my favorite outdoor spaces, which I designed years ago. The patterned tile, navy seating, white stucco, and layers of greenery make this balcony feel like a little room all its own.
I love how much personality you can create in a small outdoor space without making it feel overcrowded.

Want a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and invitingWant a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and inviting? Start with these simple changes:
1. Layer your bedding. Mix sheets, a duvet, quilts, and throw blankets to create that plush, lived-in look.
2. Add warm lighting. Swap harsh overhead lighting for bedside lamps, sconces, or a statement light with a warm glow.
3. Bring in plenty of texture. Think linen, velvet, boucle, chunky knits, and soft rugs.
4. Keep the palette warm and calming. Soft neutrals, earthy tones, and muted colors instantly make a room feel more restful.
5. Mix in natural materials. Wood, rattan, woven accents, and stone add warmth and character.
6. Make the walls feel personal. Art, photographs, or even a statement headboard can make the room feel more finished.
7. Add something organic. A vase of branches, fresh flowers, or a little greenery can bring the room to life.
The goal isn’t to make your bedroom perfect. It’s to make it feel like a place you actually want to retreat to at the end of the day.
Save this for your next bedroom refresh. 🤎

The right chandelier doesn’t just light a room, it becomes the room. Scale, material, placement. When it’s done right, everything else arranges itself around it.
