Before and After – Steve Jones bettershelter – House Tour

February 20, 2020
  • Share

Today I’m incredibly excited to take you on a tour through Steve Jones’ home. Steve Jones is an old friend of mine and was my mentor on the COCOCOZY Design House! Steve has an interesting story. He grew up in Laguna Beach and worked for Also Quiksilver for many years. In the last 10-15 years, he has changed directions and took on flipping homes. He has flipped almost 150 homes in Los Angeles!

Look at this before the photo! The house was desperately in need of some love and major upgrades. You will be shocked by the after photos.

First off for reference – Steve has a much different design style than I do. His home gives off a very eclectic + vintage feeling. While there are some edgier items Steve also has an appreciation for luxury. Together the blended styles create a unique experience that makes one want to explore.

The living room is a great example of blended styles. There is tasteful artwork, sculptural pieces that look like they were acquired while traveling, and a Hermes blanket. I personally love the bright white walls paired with a palette focused on earth tones.

This Spanish Colonial Revival has amazing bones! First off, this fireplace is stunning. The green tiles look great paired with the black and white accents in this space. The mini gallery wall adds the perfect touch of artwork and interest. But, we can’t forget about all of the ceramic sculptures. This unique whimsy is what makes Steve’s home personal and unique!

The final image of the living room shows off the full effect of the design. The mix of eccentric and regal walks a thin line but balances perfectly. I love the armchairs and reoccurring pops of green. The architecture of this room alone is jaw-dropping. The archway adds an open feeling and the blast of sunlight makes this room shine.

The dining room may be the ultimate collective area in the house. The combination of the Persian rug, industrial table, and quirky/artistic chairs create a surprising unity. The artwork adds a nice pop of color to the space making the rug pop out a bit more.

The kitchen was a complete disaster! I’m still in shock of the after images.

Another stunning archway leads us from the dining room to a bright white kitchen. The bright patterned rugs add the perfect touch of Steve to this space. The kitchen looks like a great space to entertain and hang out. The marble counters and brick wall add a nice touch of texture.

And just look at the transformation of this archway!

If the archways inside didn’t give away the Spanish Colonial influence this shot should! This exterior patio space is simply beautiful. The repeating arches create a pleasing pattern and shape. I can only imagine sitting out here in the morning sun!

Now, look at this bathroom before image! The bathroom was beyond just needing some updates. It needed a full facelift.

The bathroom combines the colors from the living room with ease. The green, black, and white create a nice palette. I love the mix of hexagon tiles on the floor and square tiles on the counter and in the shower. Not to mention, the slight indentation on the shower creates a lovely focal point.

This bedroom takes on a vintage feeling with the help of the chair, rug, and artwork. The color palette has nice pops of orange throughout the room that tie together the items in the room well. I think the choice to do a minimal bedframe and bedding was a smart choice!

A smaller white bathroom beautifully highlights the green and black. This image shows off the inside of the shower this time, I love the tile work and overall shape/design of the shower. The all-white vanity is a nice touch + the black toilet seat adds an interesting relationship between black and white in this room.

The other bedroom has a more lived-in feeling thanks to the books and lamp on the nightstand. The pops of orange look nice with the pop of blue/green from the pillow. I like the choice to do white bedding and a neutral rug.

The other side of the room has a wild and intriguing rug arrangement. The warm and cool tones in the rug tie into the color palette perfectly. Plus those ceiling to floor grey drapes add a nice contrast to the space. I love the collection of items on the dresser.

The staircase was an even crazier transformation.

It went from being completely outdated and worn down into a stunning and modern staircase.

Outside shows off the stunning lush greeny that surrounds the home and Steve’s vintage Volkwagen he uses for surfing. I love those details on the outside of the home!

The exterior of this home doesn’t disappoint. The Spanish style shines next to the vibrant blues and greens. The palm trees offer the perfect touch of LA and that pool looks absolutely perfect!

Love the color you used!!! My own home also needs to be refreshed, and seeing your design has given me great courage.

Every room treats art and objects with the same weight as furniture, nothing is decorative for its own sake, everything is placed with intention.
The Haussmannian bones, ornate cornicing, herringbone parquet, original stained glass ceiling, stay intact throughout. Natural and handcrafted materials do the rest.

This new collection feels like such a beautiful evolution. Inspired by their Manhattan Flower District showroom, it brings together the romance of classic decorative arts with a fresh, modern perspective in a way that feels bold, artistic, and incredibly thoughtful.
If you are attending ICFF 2026, make sure to stop by Booth W1048 and experience Petal Promenade in person. Congratulations, Kristi and Wendy. This collection is truly something special. ✨
