Exterior of Wardour Castle in England. Palladian architecture in a English country setting. (above)
I promised a castle last week (somewhere on Facebook or Twitter or someplace)…so I’m delivering a castle…
This is going to sound weird…but I always thought I would live in a castle one day. Low and behold I found one. It is the Wardour Castle is Wiltshire England. Was browsing through locations agency Light Locations site and I saw the word “castle” and stopped. I immediately emailed the company to ask if I could use photos and they said, “YES”!!
A castle…my dream…wow…me in a castle…I can see it. I would happily even wear a crown if I had to…not a problem.
Turns out this castle was actually built in the late 1700’s…it is a rebuild of an older castle that had fallen to ruins. Just about two hours outside of London, I think this would be a lovely spot to have. Don’t you?
The castle does not belong to royalty..now this once regal neoclassical country home owned by the Lord Arundell of Wardour…is now used for locations for films and photo shoots…hmmmm…
No matter what is used for now…I’m focused. I want a castle. Simple.
Thought this remodeled castle interior could allow all of us to dream about what could be done with this space. Grand rooms, high ceilings, stunning architecture…I can see myself walking down the stairs in a ball gown now…hee hee…
Hope you enjoy!
I think I love the double staircase the most. What would you do with this space…would you even want to live in a castle?
Have a nice Thursday!

P.S. Go to the COCOCOZY FACEBOOK PAGE for a little floral visual trivia – the idea of good friend CB who is vacationing in Michigan right now! Three photos..can you figure out the difference between botanicals and fauxtanicals…figure out which plants/flowers are real and which are fake!
I’m with you on the double staircase — it is a staircase that would make Scarlet swoon; a staircase that would cost a fortune in bows and boughs at Christmas; a staircase that can almost live up to Tevye’s dream of “one long staircase going up, and one even longer going down, and one more going nowhere just for show.”
It needs a round table at the center with an absolutely enormous arrangement of fabulous flowers…perhaps from your Facebook post today. 🙂
Live in a castle….one with a bit more human proportions, YES! This one is a bit oversized for me.
As far as interior design goes…it is no great shake. Thank god, they did not rip out all the architectural details. Now you can go modern or traditional with the place. I hate the way it is presented now on the inside.
Go ahead COCO buy the place, I have got the right lamps for it !!
Good luck on your first bid.

I love this house! John Fowler and Nancy Lancaster would have had a ball decorating this place. If I were to tackle it, I would decorate in their style – they are after all the king and queen of English Country Style – perfect here.
Great Post!
I think this was used for one of my favorite movies: Billy Elliot
I love the staircase. Thank you for a little vicarious travel time! Shiree’
Wow! What a beautiful place and so clean and modern. Thanks for sharing. I think it would be a bit too large for me but would enjoy staying there a week with family.
I thought of Billy Elliot, too. I think they used this location for the ballet school he applied to. “Go Billy!!”.
I LOVE the juxtaposition of the historic and clean Palladian architecture with th clean lines of white and modern. Neither negates the other and the modern furniture, kitchen and bath highlight the architecture beautifully. I don’t know that the architect would have done it this way, but as an Interior designer I love it. Thanks for sharing
Oh,I am in love with this castle already. Yes, I would live in it. Who wouldn’t?
I have to admit that out of all the pictures you showed, my favorite was the last one. I just love the castle and the scenery around it. Altho the staircase is breathtaking.
Call in the interior design squad and tell them to bring some color!! Wonderful, beautiful space, but a little sterile. I can see why it’s used for events…cause event planners bring in the color! It’s a great dream to live in one of these beauties. I hope you get to one day!
I was really surprised to see how minimal and clean the interior was. I love the juxtaposition between the old and new. Great space.
I absolutely love these photos. I love the open spaces! I’ve never been to a mansion before, but this makes me want to visit!
Wow – that staircase and the woodwork in this castle is absolutely amazing! Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely beautiful! I love the decor on the inside – simple, modern, uncluttered.
I think it would be neat to purchase a lovely castle like that and turn it into a home for orphans.

I think the house is AMAZING but the decor is too modern. love the light and the clean cut but I would have used antiques and a bit more colour. None of the minimalist crap in this house!
