Crucial Elements: 12 Neutral Items For Every Room in Your Home

June 7, 2022
  • Share

This beautiful staircase lives in the historic building where I stayed in Paris. The building is located in Le Marais, a neighborhood full of shops and restaurants. There are many hidden gems and historic buildings. If you love architecture like me, then I highly recommend visiting for inspiration. Paris is decorated with stone and natural items.

Le Marais means “swamp” in French for those who don’t know. It’s not really a charming name until you learn the neighborhood’s history. During the seventeenth century, it was a swamp area that formed the eastern border of the city. As time went on, it evolved into one of the trendiest neighborhoods in Paris. See 12 neutral items inspired by my trip to Paris below.

Get Inspired: 6 Vanities That You Need to See

May 12, 2022
  • Share

Vanities can make or break a bathroom. That’s a bold statement to make but think about it. When you walk into a powder room or a primary bathroom your eyes go right to the vanity. It’s where you go to do your morning makeup routine and the last place you go before going to bed. The cabinetry, the finishes, and the type of sink are all different factors that create a beautiful design. The perfect vanity will set the tone for the bathroom. I rounded up 6 bathrooms to help inspire you.

1. COCOCOZY Design

The photo above is the bathroom I designed from the COCOCOZY Design House Series. We used a TOTO sink and faucet. I wanted a clean bathroom design, but it needed a little character. So I added hexagon floor tiles and subway wall tiles with black grout. It enhanced the space!

Stimulate your mind: Inside a Spacious Brooklyn Kitchen Full of Elegance

April 26, 2022
  • Share

Did you know Brooklyn is larger than Manhattan? In fact, it’s three times bigger than Manhattan. I just learned this and my mind is blown. Speaking of Brooklyn, interior designer Jenna Chused renovated her spacious Brooklyn apartment. She’s the designer behind the firm Chused & Co. Her apartment is elegant and full of natural light. Her design style is unique, which is why I thought I share it with all of you.

One of the stand-out rooms in this spacious Brooklyn apartment is the kitchen. What initially looks like another white kitchen is actually incredibly unique. Chused mixes textures and color palettes that you don’t normally see in a NY kitchen.

September 23, 2021

The statement hallway is an interior design trend that is slowly growing in popularity, and is not going anywhere anytime soon. Upon researching what these thoughtfully designed hallways are called, there was no right or wrong answer. Hallway, corridor, entryway, vestibule, enfilade are all options but vary depending on their location within the home. For the purpose of this article, a statement hallway is a long hallway with either a wall of windows or a wall of windowed doors on either side of the hall.

This Haussmannian apartment sits directly facing N This Haussmannian apartment sits directly facing Notre-Dame on the Left Bank, and @double_g_interior_design designed the interior to match that setting without competing with it. ✨
The approach was deliberate restraint: restored cornices kept intact, stained oak floors, limestone tones, a mix of vintage furniture and contemporary silhouettes. Every choice earning its place. The light does the rest. Bouncing off mirrors, moving through the neutral walls across the day. 🔅
→ Save this if you’re working with a Haussmannian space and want to let the architecture lead.

That level of control is what makes the result so specific. Rich materials, sculptural forms, cinematic lighting but nothing feels decorative for its own sake. Every detail was considered as part of one complete vision, and you feel it in every room. ✨

This 300-year-old Belgian château redesigned by a This 300-year-old Belgian château redesigned by a French interior designer and architect, Nathan Litera @nathanlitera is a beautiful reminder that good design isn’t about replacing the past, but learning how to live with it. You see it in the preserved millwork, the original fireplaces, the parquet floors, and then in the quiet contrast of contemporary lighting, cleaner silhouettes, and restrained color.
The magic is in the balance. The newer pieces don’t compete with the architecture. They feel intentional, calm, and completely at ease. Nothing is overly styled. Nothing distracts. History stays front and center while the space still feels entirely livable today.
Here’s how to bring that same feeling into your own home:
* Keep your base timeless — neutral walls, classic materials, architectural details if you have them
* Let contrast do the work — modern lighting or furniture against traditional bones instantly updates a space
* Edit your palette — keep colors within a tight range and let texture and form do the talking
* Invest in materials — marble, wood, plaster. They age beautifully and never feel out of place
It’s not about recreating a château. It’s about understanding the feeling that quiet kind of luxury that doesn’t need to announce itself.
Save this for when you want your space to feel layered, timeless, and truly considered. ✨
