I feel like I am constantly in the mode of designing and re-designing my kitchen space…in my tiny little cottage in the Hollywood Hills, ‘kitchen’ really means kitchen / home office / storage / garden nook / whatever else I can find a home for! In this new iteration, I’ve been toying with the idea of incorporating new colors and materials into my kitchen. When considering surfaces in a kitchen, I always thing the most durable and versatile materials are the best…but color and style are important too.
I recently had the opportunity to interview Katie Congress, North America Marketing Manager for Dupont’s Corian® and Zodiaq® products, to chat about the new line. Corian and Zodiaq recently launched high style collections of surfaces using a patented technology called Deep Color that gives the surfaces greater depth of color. Corian colors range from new whites, deep blues, greys, greens, browns. Of course these Corian counters and surfaces aren’t just for kitchens…they can be used in bathrooms, laundry rooms, on fireplace surrounds and more. Fun getting ideas from their Design Horizons Trend Guide too.
Katie talked about the company’s fresh perspective including giving a few styling tips when considering a redesign! She gave me some really great insight on their product and honestly opened my eyes to more uses and textures than I could keep track of! Check out a little bit of our interview below…I’m including a few of my favorites from the new collection as well!
COCO: Why these colors and why now?
KATIE CONGRESS, CORIAN: The new colors fill marketplace voids for both the commercial and residential spaces – an evolved line of striking hues that are inspired by nature, a range of blues, greens, browns, grays and whites that are inspired from the latest color trends from around the world. We based the colors on extensive market research, as well as looking at the current and future global trends in color and aesthetics. One big global trend right now is for very dark blues, veering towards black. That was the inspiration for Corian® Deep Inkwell, Corian® Deep Lapis, Corian® Nightfall, and Zodiaq® Indigo Swirl. In addition, the new veining aesthetics introduced in Corian® Sand Storm brings a fresh opulent perspective on patterns inspired by nature and a new aesthetic technology. The Grays collection shows an evolution of grays, these new darker gray tones convey a touch of prestige and authority, elevating any interior.
COCO: What are some creative uses of Corian in home decor?
KATIE: The design possibilities with Corian® are truly endless. Corian® has a unique ability to expand and adapt to any household need! It can be formed into a wine rack, which creates more space on the counter tops. It can also be shaped into an expandable cutting board, flipping in and out on the kitchen sink. This innovative, unique material not only decreases clutter, but also makes it much easier to maintain and uphold a clean home! You can also create the look of a tiled backsplash with Corian®, without any grout or maintenance needed. Corian® is the perfect material for beautiful and maintenance free shower walls as well. And it’s Kosher.
What do you think?? Should I invest in a kitchen refresh?? I’ve been doing my research. Download the Zodiaq Color Trend Guide to check out options – it’s been so fun to learn about Corian and Zodiaq and all of their new colors.

We have Corian in our kitchen and one bathroom. Back in 2007 when we renovated our en-suite it was impossible to get integrated twin basins in Australia so having a unit made in Corian was the only option. I was really pleased with the finish and its looks just as fresh today as it did then.
I really dithered about whether to use Corian in the kitchen – the deciding factor for us was that our work space is L shaped and I didn’t want a visible seam at the spot I do most of my food prep. we also have teenagers and figured that at least Corian can be repaired! We’ve rented a few houses where the stone surfaces had chipped, especially around sinks. 4 years on, the Corian is immaculate still, although the kitchen – which was very expensive- has chipped. My only reservation with Corian is that it isn’t as tactile as stone, in my opinion. And you don’t get a lovely clinking sound as you put a wine glass down! My other tip is that if you want an invisible join, you can’t go for a more patterned design as it is impossible to join the pattern up well. But overall, if you want a tough work surface that is going to stand the test of time, Corina is an excellent choice.
Corian countertops are great! We have them in our house and they are so beautiful, they were reasonably priced and they are much more durable then I would have thought! I would definitely recommend them for your home. Thanks for sharing!
