Found these two country estates featured in Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue UK. The country manor has long been the retreat for English gentry and French aristocrats. Large mansions outside the major metropolitan areas where the privileged could leave urban life behind. The posh country houses of the past still exist today. I spotted these two country mansions from France and Great Britain. The French estate is owned by Parisian gallery owner Agnès Monplaisir. The English manor is the home of former British mosel and Vogue contributor Laura Bailey.
Thought I would find out which country house you prefer…the one in France or another in England? The French vs the English aristocratic country estate face off!
French Country House Guest Room
A twin guest room clad from floor to ceiling in a beautiful wall paper. The toile fabric is perfectly French – but is complete with a yellow whimsical twist. I love how bedskirt and headboard is the exact same toile as the wallpaper. This creates a cohesive space that is also unique. In any other space, this room would be a bit too much but here it is perfect. The simple bedding perfectly compliments the eccentric room and I love the attention to detail through accent colors. Yellows, reds, and deep woods attract the eye in this room – I mean just look at this lamp. How could anyone resist such a guest room!
ENGLISH COUNTRY MANOR – BEDROOM
The master bedroom of this British home exudes an exquisite sense of restraint in its decor. The room’s centerpiece is a captivating portrait adorning the wall, featuring none other than Laura Bailey, the lady of the house herself. With her background as a former top model turned British Vogue Contributor, it’s no wonder that this room reflects her chic and luxurious lifestyle. This bedroom effortlessly combines modern elements with the rich historical details inherent to the home’s origins. From the stately stone fireplace to the intricate crown molding, every aspect of this room exudes a sense of perfection. It is a masterful blend of contemporary aesthetics and timeless charm, creating an ambiance that is both inviting and visually stunning.
French Country House – Living Room
Stepping into this living room is like entering the realm of classic French farmhouse luxury. The grand fireplace commands attention. Its intricate stone detailing and masterful craftsmanship instantly captivate the eye, becoming the focal point of the space. The marble tile flooring adds an elegant touch, perfectly accentuating the hues of the room. The subtle incorporation of small red diamond accents within the flooring creates a harmonious connection with the vibrant red portrait adorning the wall. The portrait itself, with its vivid colors, adds a captivating focal point that draws the gaze and evokes a sense of intrigue. However, one of the most enchanting elements of this living room lies tucked away in the corner – a mesmerizing tapestry. Its intricate details adds depth and character to the space, enhancing the overall ambiance of refined luxury!
English Country Manor – Living Room
A bright, clean, and sophisticated living room, where light colors are used strategically to amplify the natural light pouring in. This space embraces a serene atmosphere, allowing the beauty of the room’s details to shine. From the floor-to-ceiling window to the meticulously embroidered blanket adorning the ottoman. Clearly, every aspect of this living room has been carefully chosen to create a harmonious environment. The attention to detail is evident, as each element contributes to the overall aesthetic with finesse. The pre-war fireplace steals the spotlight, boasting exquisite bow detailing and rugged paneling that adds depth and character to the space. It serves as a timeless centerpiece, infusing the room with a touch of heritage and charm. Adding to the ambiance, the artwork adorning the walls seamlessly blends the tones of the space. It strikes a delicate balance between cool and warm hues, further enhancing the visual appeal of the room!
French Country House – Lady of the House
Agnès Monplaisir, the lady of the house, is a Parisian art collector known for her confidence and determination. Here, she basks in her country estate – which is open for exhibitions. Visitors to Agnès’ country estate are welcomed into a world where creativity knows no bounds. The living room stands as a testament to her vision, offering a glimpse into her artistic journey. It is a place where art comes to life, and where Agnès’ passion and dedication are palpable.
English Country Manor – Lady of the House
As the lady of the house, Laura Bailey brings her innate sense of chic and luxurious living to every corner of her abode. The home serves as a reflection of her refined taste and sophisticated lifestyle. This small nook, in particular, serves as a testament to her mid-century with a twist style. The flawless execution of design elements, coupled with her impeccable taste, creates a space that exudes sophistication and a sense of refined living!

Ehglish!
Definitely the English…..a bit too much going on in the French for my taste. 🙂 I was pleasantly surprised by the English decor as it was more modern than I would have thought.
French! I love all these French : ]
