Two sofas…face to face…
Keeps things simple…instead of buying one sofa just buy two…hmmm… Food for thought!
I sometimes think this design device works…other times I’m not sure. Means there is ample seating, less visual clutter due to the symmetry of it all…hmmm…thinking.
What do you think. Like or dislike?
Of these photos my favorite is the dueling lounge sofas (the last photos)…I love those reclaimed wood floors too!
Please weigh in. Would you want two sofas facing off in your living room?

I love the 2 sofas idea! It makes things simple and streamlined and is very accommodating for having guests…instead of everyone having to sit on one sofa, people can sit across and have room to fit everyone.
I think two sofa’s facing each other looks fabulous and definitely helps when decorating a living room as everything else seems to fall into place more easily.
However you do need space for this and sometimes a single sofa/L-shaped and chairs does look equally as fabulous.
I love the images you’ve posted and the last one is my favourite too.
Two sofas facing each other wherever possible!
Love the examples you’ve shown.
I want those floorboards!
I adore two sofas. I’m usually broke after buying one, so I end up adding two cheaper chairs to face off with my one expensive sofa!
Love these pics. These spaces have a nice balance and feel light and airy even with the two large sofas. Any idea where those velvet greyish ones are from? (pic #3) Love the shape!
totally on baord with this…i bought 2 sofas and did an L shape (yes, I didn’t want a sectional)….
I like the look but that last room looks so uncomfortable…
Love this look as I am a symmetry freak! It does require a room with some symmetry as well. I know this because my living room is off kilter with three times as much wall space on one side of the fireplace than the other. It pains me just to type that!
Dear Coco, We have three pairs of sofas in our house. One pair in our living room, and two more pairs in our main level and lower level family rooms. I love them, and we have room to change the arrangement. We also have easy chairs in two of those rooms. I heard one designer say that two sofas make the room look like a hotel lobby, but SO beg to differ!
Love it! Like you stated… cuts down on the visual clutter…
I love the dueling sofa look! It’s a layout I often encourage my clients to go for…however I have noticed that people with a television as their focal point in the space are much more hesitant to choose this approach. Works great for formal living rooms though! LOVE that symmetry!
i LOVE sofas facing each other, if I had more room in my place i would do it.
Pair the sofas for balance and ability to lounge with your feet up!
I am also a big believer in people liking their own space. I watch what a group of people gravitate toward when they enter a room, and the chairs seem to be taken up first. Couples like the sofa.
Since I love chairs, I like to give the option of 2 accent chairs at one end with an accent piece between, then 2 facing sofas and fireplace at the other end. You’ve created more of a circle, rather than starkly facing each other. And I don’t always like a coffeetable – especially if it eats up a lot of valuable floor space for largely unused surface. Think something like a sofa table or narrower coffeetable sometimes instead. Do not make people have to sidle past a coffee table to sit down, as in the first photo. It’s not casual and inviting unless you’re planning on playing a board game on the table!
I am open to what looks best in a room. And I own eight pairs of matching sofas (each pair different)! I had never really thought of my doing this so deliberately until this post and reading the comments. It does seem that most of us find calm, and collectedness in pairing. I have different but complimentary pillows on each opposing sofa. I love my smaller love seats especially. I have two houses so there are not eight pairs in one house and some are love seats. We are a big family so I think I have always intuitivly bought them to fit all of us in each room.
I have always loved two sofas facing each other and have that arrangement in our house in Asti. It just makes sense to me.
I like the two sofa design when it gives a room a comfortable cozy feel.
The second image just looks to cold and uncomfortable.

Love face to face conversations. Always so much more personal! Lovely entries!

The last shot is my favourite two. The two lounges on the stunning floor is soo chic. I wish I had the floor space to have two couches “facing off”
I deffinitely like 2 sofas facing each other. it’s great for conversations and much better for a family than a sectional. My vote for this solution 🙂
I really do like the two sofa look and provides great seating. http://www.NikrisDesigns.com
LIKE….it is what I have going on in both family room and living room!
Thse rooms both look so inviting, however with a little kid I could never do white, maybe some day when the kiddo is out of the house!
I’m a huge fan of facing sofas. The apartment that I used to live in before I moved into my new house had two sofas that were placed in an L shape with the TV in the corner of the room. I decided to shift it around so that both sofas were facing each other with the TV against the wall in the middle of the room. It looked good and it really opened the room up!
I recently moved the tv out of the family room and rearranged with two sofas facing each other, lots of great books and magazines on the coffee table and good reading light. After a short but whiny period of complaining from my teenage children I am writing this while sitting with them (on the sofas) one reading Vogue and the other Dylan Thomas poems. I’m a big fan of the configuration!
I love two sofas! If I had the room, I would definitely have two! The reclaimed wood in the last picture is amazing!
Love this. Looking for two sofas for my TV room right now.
I’m actually a fan. I have a sofa face-off in my living room.
I LOVE the look of two sofas in a space, but I always warm my clients that you do not have the same flexibility of re-arranging (which I do seasonly at my own house) the layout of a room like you do when you have a sofa and a couple of different pairs of chairs. Just my take! M.
love it on the second photo – really does seem to work there – think a lot depends on size and shape of your room to start with though and then how you lay it out
This is so great! I did the two sofa thing too! Here’s mine.
I like this layout, sometimes. I think I would rather have one gorgeous sofa and then have two great wing chairs that face eachother. I like it when sofas make a statement.
