FLEA MARKET FINDS – WHICH WOULD YOU HAVE TAKEN HOME?!

A bright red antique coffee grinder
Item 1 – A bright red antique coffee grinder was priced at $2000 at the Rose Bowl flea market last Sunday. (above)

Last weekend, just this past Sunday, I set out at 8:15a to Pasadena to go to the Rose Bowl flea market.  I was planning on spending two hours or so browsing and shopping…getting ideas…finding some good pieces too maybe.  My plan was to do a surgical strike here…in and out in 2 hours.  So much for surgical strike…I ended up leaving the flea market at 2pm…some 5 hours after arriving. The best laid plans…right?

Friend and fab architect Tom Newman of Newman Wolen Architects, who I haven’t seen in ages, read my COCOCOZY post on Sunday morning and he saw that I was tweeting from the Rose Bowl.  He said my tweets motivated him.  All I know is about 3 hours into my flea market odyssey, I got a surprise text from Tom saying “Got inspired. Came to Rose Bowl. Still here?”.  I immediately texted him back saying how happy I would be to run into him.  That was the best part of the day…browsing and chatting with Tom for a few hours!

Anyhoooooo….in 5 hours, I think I perused every single booth and stand at the flea market that had any furniture, home accessories, tableware and more.

Sunday’s flea market was both fun and confusing.  Fun because there is so much buzz and energy with all of the people browsing and negotiating.  Confusing because I lost all sense of my design aesthetic and got all caught up in whether something was worth the purchase and what was not (I know…it is worth it if I like it but this past Sunday I lost all sense of what I even liked).

It is also strange because every minute my aesthetic changed at the flea market…at one point, I was obsessed with cowboy stuff (saddles etc…I think Tom influenced this), then I was looking at beaded chairs from Nigeria, then I considered a hoard of metal letters and metal signs.  Items I would NEVER in my life be interested in purchasing before I went into the flea market vortex.

Anyhoooo….here are some items I spotted.  I didn’t buy much when there…only bought three things really (which are not pictured).  I wanted you all to take a look though at all of these items and tell me which you would have purchased and why…or tell me why you wouldn’t have purchased any of it.

Very interested to hear your take on these flea market finds.

Two French vintage porcelain bowls with gold detailing on the rim
Item 2 – Two French vintage  porcelain bowls with gold detail around rim.  Priced at $15 each. (above)
Two Saarinen inspired stools with a white tulip base and vinyl seat cushions
Item 3 – Tom liked these Saarinen like stools with a white tulip base and vinyl seat cushion. (above)
Maps, bird prints and fruit engravings
Item 4 – Prints.  Map and fruit engravings. (above)
Blue glass seltzer bottle
Item 5 – Blue glass seltzer bottle.  Asking price $85 (I think…I can’t quite remember)(above)
Stack of three vintage suitcases on two black chests on top of a blue steamer trunk
Item 6 – Vintage suitcases and a blue steamer trunk.  (above)
Crystal ball chandelier
Item 7 – Crystal ball chandelier.  Asking price $250 (above)
4 teal metal bar stools with vinyl seat and back covers
Item 8 – 4 teal metal bar stools with vinyl seat cover and back. $400 for the set. (above)
Orange lacquer painted wood screen with crane landscape
Item 9 – Orange lacquer painted wood screen with crane landscape scene. Asking price $400 (above)
Yellow ceramic rope pot
Item 10 – Yellow ceramic rope pot…chipped around edges.  Asking for pair, $45 (above)

So which of these flea market finds do you like…which ones do you hate? Which do you think I should have taken home?

Happy Friday!

Oh I just LOVE LOVE flea market posts!! This is very similar to a new series I’m planning…tentatively titled “Trash or Treasure”. I’m working out the kinks. 🙂

Hey those turquoise barstools would have been mine all mine! After I talked the seller down to $250 of course. Love the bowls too.

No fair, I want to see what you got!

i would have snapped up the Saarinen like stools with a white tulip base and vinyl seat cushion. You could redesign the color of those over and over.

Is it a design crime to say I am not much of a flea-er? that being said, in the right spot those turquoise stools would have been fun, I could have made good use of the maps and fruit engravings and the rope bowls were cute but over priced. But did anyone notice the collie dog painting in the background? i could see that on a gallery wall for sure! fun post

I definitely would’ve gotten the tulip stools… sooooo cool! I didn’t see you mention a price on those, though..

I’m going to a flea market tomorrow and hope to get some good stuff!

You didn’t mention the framed picture of the dogs behind the Saarinen-likes. I would have snapped that right up! Honestly, though, I love the chandelier the best. 😉

I’m with some of the others! I’m looking behind stuff to see what else is there! That said, our flea market prices here aret anywhere near that high, so that turned me right off. But I love any kind of bird art or maps, so that would be my first choice. The orange screen caught my eye but it is totally not my style.

I would take home the turquoise bar stools. Tres cool! I think we should all find out where Cyndia lives and go flea market shopping in her area. I love a bargain.
    Thanks for the fund post.

Cute cute stuff! I would have taken a lot of it. I loved the chandelier and the suitcases/chest.

I have been seeing suitcaes everywhere lately-as decorations, tables, even pots for plants. What would you do with them? Any advice because I really like them

    Thanks!

Today is my birthday but...I don’t want to celeb Today is my birthday but...I don’t want to celebrate...I want to help.
I want to make a meaningful impact in our greater Los Angeles community suffering from the fires. I invite you to join me in transforming birthday wishes into support for one local organization on the ground in Pasadena/Altadena.
I have made a contribution today already to the LA Fire Relief Fund created by @victorybiblechurch in Pasadena. They are actively assisting families in need in both Pasadena and Altadena who have been affected by the devastating Eaton Fire.
Although I don't have a personal connection to Pastor DeCuir or the church, I was searching for an organization that is helping in the Altadena area. A well respected civil rights attorney I follow @leemerrittesq is on the ground helping the church members and community members with legal services in the wake of the fires. I hope by contributing to their efforts, we can extend a helping hand to those facing significant challenges during this difficult time
To donate, please visit their website at https://vbcpasadena.org/ (link in bio as well). Every contribution, no matter the size, brings hope and relief to those who need it most. Tell them you heard about them from me.
Your generosity to the Los Angeles community is the best birthday gift I could ask for.

Happy New Year! 🎉✨ As we step into this freshHappy New Year! 🎉✨ As we step into this fresh chapter, I’m reminded of the beauty of starting anew and I like recommitting to goals at the top of the year. Nothing set in stone but just an overall vision of what I'd like to do and who I would hope to help along the way.
This year, my mantra is: **dream big, act boldly, treasure the small joys, continue to lead with kindness and to have as much empathy as possible for others **. Just a few things...😂
I’m also deeply committed to helping people who follow along to achieve their dreams. I'll be curating captivating interior design inspiration with COCOCOZY that will hopefully give you ideas and dreams for your own space. I will also be empowering you to realize the value of your influence with Chirpyest by earning cash back for sharing and shopping. I hope to be open about the journey of the COCOCOZY product line. I want to share real time behind the scenes how the line is being built and how we are growing Chirpyest; both examples of the not so linear journey of building businesses from the ground up. I hope these stories spark you to push your own boundaries and shake out of your comfort zones.
Lastly, in 2025, I’m committed to surrounding myself with people who have a positive vibe about them while striving to be that same light for others. Luckily, I have a great start on this with an amazing family and fantastic group of friends - a fantastic support network.
My wish for you in 2025: May this year bring you clarity, courage, and the confidence to pursue all that makes you happy.
