Get Inspired: 2 Hacks To Dress Up Your Front Porch for Summer

May 19, 2022
  • Share

First impressions are everything. Especially, when it comes to the exterior of your home. Dressing up your front porch for the summer will help brighten your home. Get in the summer spirit with bold colors and decor made of natural materials. Your home exterior should reflect your personal style and compliment the interior of your home.

The photo above is a front porch located at a little inn in the Hamptons. I came across it while on a walk. The pink and green hues made me stop and take a closer look. I love when homeowners aren’t afraid to add a pop of color. Most home exteriors are neutral and wood tones. I think it’s time to step out of our comfort zones when it comes to our home exteriors. See my 3 tips to dress up your front porch below.

Tip #1: Paint Your Porch

The first tip is to freshen up your porch with a new coat of paint. Make your home exterior pop with a freshly painted neutral porch. You can even add dimensions with multiple colors like the Hamptons porch photographed above. They added a blush pink on the ceiling and dark green shutters to contrast the bright white paint. So fun for the summertime.

Tip #2: Decorate with a Purpose

What is your design style? Do you like modern farmhouse, country chic, or natural minimalism? Whatever your style is it’s important to decorate with a purpose. The size of your porch doesn’t matter as long as you have the porch staples: seating, tables, and accents. You want your front porch to be welcoming. And you don’t need the cliche “welcome”  doormat to greet your guests. If your porch is large enough, add a loveseat and a large coffee table for a cozier look. For a Parisian look, add two vintage chairs and a small table. Don’t add too much clutter. The best decor is flowers. Keep it simple with a few different size planters that compliment each other.

Old-world plasterwork meets contemporary furniture, and warm brown-stained wood quietly anchors every room. A conversation between heritage and modernity that never raises its voice. By @atelierdaaa 🤍

Did you know one Sunday a month, the Champs-ÉlyséeDid you know one Sunday a month, the Champs-Élysées closes to traffic entirely?
No cars. Just people, walking straight down the center with the Arc de Triomphe ahead. Then I walked home over The Seine. It had just rained, and the sky was doing something extraordinary. And of course, the Eiffel Tower showed up right on cue.
Paris on a quiet Sunday is something else. 🖤

This St Germain apartment, designed by Félix Millo This St Germain apartment, designed by Félix Millory @felixmillory , is defined by two things: a tightly controlled material palette and a sculptural art collection that runs through every room without exception.
Travertine frames every doorway. Dark smoked oak covers the joinery and cabinetry. Grey marble runs across the kitchen counters and island. Within that framework, figurative sculptures on the shelves, a large totemic piece at the entrance, stone forms on the dining table, a large-format artwork in the kitchen. Every room has at least one object that demands your attention. 🗿
→ Save this if you’re designing around a sculpture collection.
