Get Inspired: Checkerboard Floors in Different Ways

July 27, 2022
  • Share

Checkerboard floors are trending in interior design again. But did they ever go out of style? Designers are incorporating the classic pattern into kitchens, bathrooms, foyers, and mud rooms. There are so many ways to add a pattern to your home. The classic pattern takes the basic room from boring to beautiful. Checkered floors elevate a space by adding dimension. Different tones and color combinations will have different impacts. Muted tiles will create a soft and charming design. While bold colors will add playfulness and whimsical textures. See some of the COCOCOZY team’s favorite rooms that have checkerboard floors below.

Instead of the classic black and white checkered color palette, this kitchen features a brown and white tile pattern. It complements the rustic style kitchen and gives the room a charming accent floor.

Smaller tiles can help improve the flow of a room. it’s easier to have the tile floor connect to the shower for a seamless look. Add fun colored tile like the green checkered flooring above.

The size of the checker pattern can transform a space. A larger tile will make a smaller room look bigger.

Checkerboard flooring and tiles have been seen in art and pottery dating back to 1500 B.C. Throughout the centuries, the style has been utilized in different structures including in ancient Rome and Egyptian hieroglyphics. Today, the trending pattern is a wardrobe staple and a classic flooring for modern designs. Checkerboard patterns don’t just stop at interior design. It also expands to fashion and home decor. You can see the trending print at some of your favorite brands and being worn by your favorite celebrities.

Old-world plasterwork meets contemporary furniture, and warm brown-stained wood quietly anchors every room. A conversation between heritage and modernity that never raises its voice. By @atelierdaaa 🤍

Did you know one Sunday a month, the Champs-ÉlyséeDid you know one Sunday a month, the Champs-Élysées closes to traffic entirely?
No cars. Just people, walking straight down the center with the Arc de Triomphe ahead. Then I walked home over The Seine. It had just rained, and the sky was doing something extraordinary. And of course, the Eiffel Tower showed up right on cue.
Paris on a quiet Sunday is something else. 🖤

This St Germain apartment, designed by Félix Millo This St Germain apartment, designed by Félix Millory @felixmillory , is defined by two things: a tightly controlled material palette and a sculptural art collection that runs through every room without exception.
Travertine frames every doorway. Dark smoked oak covers the joinery and cabinetry. Grey marble runs across the kitchen counters and island. Within that framework, figurative sculptures on the shelves, a large totemic piece at the entrance, stone forms on the dining table, a large-format artwork in the kitchen. Every room has at least one object that demands your attention. 🗿
→ Save this if you’re designing around a sculpture collection.
