GRAY & STRIPES IN A SEASIDE COTTAGE!

August 24, 2011
  • Share
Living room with blue and white white striped armchair, reclaimed wood side table, white wicker chair and blue walls with framed pictures of blue fish

Am heading back to the states today…leaving splendid Paris behind.  So I thought I would add in a post of an all American home today!

This design glimpse is from a brand new seasside cottage in Fairfield, CT. The interior spaces were wonderfully designed by Lynn Morgan and beautifully shot by photographer Jeff McNamara.

This “cottage” is 4 bedrooms in 5000 square feet of house…I only wish my tiny little cottage in the Hollywood Hills was a fraction of the size. Just goes to show you there are cottages and then there are “cottages”. I would like the kind of cottage that goes in quotation marks…btw…

Anyhoooo…the house is a gray shingle style home with a gray and white theme. Lynn used lots of stripes, bleached and pale furniture and white lacquer beadboard throughout to create a serene elegantly casual family home.

Love the use of grey here and the bold stripes.  These spaces work for me.  Preppy, beachy, traditional with a tiny tiny hint of modern thrown in.  Nicely designed indeed!

Grey living room with grey dueling sofas, a white molded fireplace, a wood coffee table and two blue and white striped armchairs
Dining room with a striped grey and white rug, upholstered chairs around a farmhouse style table with a wicker armchair at the head of the table
Painted wood console table with a painting hanging on a blue grey wall
Butlers pantry with white cabinets with glass fronts, a striped roll up shade, wood floor and wall panel molding

What do you think of this little glimpse of this seaside “cottage”?  Any room you must have?  I rather like the scene with the painting and table…reminds me that good design can be rooted in calm simplicity. What do you think of the gray and stripes?  Do tell!

Happy Wednesday!

Hi! 5000 square feet doesn’t qualify as a cottage in my world. This is a lovely home posing as a cottage. I love a real cottage, small, not overly decorated, more about the outside than the inside… not too decorated and not too stark. I really adore your blog!

So serene and peaceful. Would love to know the gray paint colors used if that information is available!

I’d love to replicate this living room. I absolutely love it. I have tried for days to find out the color & furniture info…to no avail. Is there any way you could possibly post the color & furniture (sofas & chairs) details? Thanks so much!
