GUEST POST: DESIGNER LIZ JOY ON ALL THINGS STRIPED!

February 27, 2012

bedroom with upholstered headboard, blue ottomans at the foot of the bed, striped beige and white walls and a chandelier
Meg Braff

Hello COCOCOZY Readers! I’m Liz Joy from Shorely Chic blog and am thrilled to be a guest on COCOCOZY sharing my love for All Things Striped.  I write about beach chic design, so the stripe trend happening now is a dream come true for me. I have tons of stripes in my wardrobe and love how prominent and accessible they are becoming in decor. Today, I’ll share some of my favorite images of stripes in the home and will end with a shopping guide for a few of my current favorites in the market.

Stripes in the home transcend all styles, from traditional:

Formal dining room with dark wood table, upholstered white chairs and striped beige and white curtains
Patrik Lonn

 to cottage in the bathroom:

Bathroom with blue and white striped tiling on the walls
House Beautiful
to feminine glam in the bedroom:

Bedroom with white upholstered headboard, a round night stand, pink and white lamp with a glass base, a graphic pillow and striped wall
Sarah Richardson Design
more on glam in the bathroom: (PS WOW!)

Glamorous gold and white striped bathroom with a step in tub with and a star pendant lamp
AD
to eclectic:

Living room with a large pendant light, neutral armchair, black coffee table and beige and white striped walls
Domino Mag
to modern classic:

Modern classic living room with upholstered, blue and white striped Louis XIV bench and chair
Phoebe Howard
and of course, to nautical:

Nautical living room with a blue and white striped sofa, white curtains with a single blue strip where they meet, pendant lights and two white sofas with blue piping
apd architects

As you can see from the images above, stripes can be brought into the home in so many different ways. They can be as bold as painted on the walls, upholstered on furniture, tiled in the bathroom, or as subtle as a simple cushion the couch.

In the shopping guide below, I put together some of my favorite accessories available for purchase on the web for you to incorporate stripes in your home, and even some accessories for your wardrobe:

Designer Liz Joy's favorite striped things

1. RL Jacqueline Bowl
2. Kate Spade Wickford Collection
3. Crate & Barrel Olin Striped Area Rug
4. Lands End Vertical Striped Rugby Towel
5. Canvas Striped Fedora
6. Cornishware Ceramics
7.  West Elm Striped Ceramics

Thank you, Coco for having me on your blog to share some stripe love today. I welcome you all to my blog Shorely Chic for more on beach chic design inspiration. 🙂

xoxo,
Liz Joy

Great post! Equally in love with stripes. Did a yellow and grey combo in my son’s nursey and my home office. Loving your blog – what a clever title!

A quick history lesson for this Monday morning. Th A quick history lesson for this Monday morning. This Spanish-style home located in Malibu is actually a museum. I visited the Adamson House a few years ago. The beachfront house was built in 1929 and sits on six acres. The home was designed by Stiles Clement for Rhonda Ridge and her husband Merritt Adamson. The Adamsons used the property as their beach house until 1936 when they started living there year-round. Rhoda's father, Frederick Hastings Ridge, was the last owner of Malibu making the Adamson House a historical landmark. No photos were allowed inside.

I used to live in a cottage in Los Angeles. So whe I used to live in a cottage in Los Angeles. So whenever I come across a cottage rennovation I get excited. I discovered this charming English cottage on @houseandgarden. The home is dated back to the 16th century. The new owner wanted to add her personal style inspired by Scandinavian interior design and her time spent in Portugal. So many beautiful details in every room. Which room is your favorite?
