Every year about this time, I whip out my apple peeler and start making apple pies. I also make an old family favorite of sweet potato pie. Well this year I am cheating a bit for my Christmas Eve dinner…am running over to my favorite place to get a deep dish apple pie on Christmas eve morning.
Now, I must say, I was at the market yesterday and saw some beautiful strawberries…strawberries are delightfully in season here in California year round. These lovely red berries piled high at the market got me thinking about a pie alternative for the holidays…what about strawberry shortcake? I remember eating strawberry shortcake in the summer when I was growing up…but never at Christmas time. What about starting a new holiday tradition?
Found these lovely photos and a recipe on The Artful Desperado for a Strawberry Lime Basil Shortcake…sounds delicious. Click here for the full recipe. Homemade shortcakes and cream topped with sweet strawberries with a kick of lime and basil!
Is it time to change tradition? Thinking! Thanks Artful Desperado for the inspiration!
