How To Create A Welcoming Guest Bedroom

February 15, 2018
  • Share

Welcome to my guest bedroom!

I absolutely love having a special place for my visitors to stay — and I want to make sure they feel right at home while in town!

My intention was to create a warm and inviting room by having attention to detail but ultimately keeping things simple. So far I’ve gotten the stamp of approval from my mother and best friend — so that’s how I know the transformation was a success!

The room had dark brown bookshelves and pinkish walls when I first saw it. I painted everything white and took all the curtains off the windows to celebrate the very California view of palm tree tops. This has quickly become one of my favorite rooms in the house!

As you can see, the dark brown bookshelves were a total drag in this room that offers amazing natural light!

Ta-da! White bookshelves plus 1950s vintage highboy dressers by Heywood Wakefield make for stylish storage!

This gorgeous bedding was gifted to me from my friend Hilde Leiaghat from her company Pom Pom at Home. I picked out my favorites and before I knew it, she had it sent to me! I purchased the linen covered bed (from her collection) to match. Love!

This is the Oslo 100% stonewashed cotton coverlet collection, which you can shop by clicking here.  I love the adorable geometric petal pattern that adds texture and dimension to any bed!

This is a king size mattress from Bed In A Box, which has been comfortable and enjoyable for all of my guests!

I bought these architectural prints that are displayed above the bed in England years ago at a flea market in Notting Hill. I love that my loved ones can now enjoy them!

This is the COCOCOZY Fence Rug in Natural Linen — which is on sale for 20% off! This makes a great staple in any bedroom. You can shop it by clicking here.

I love a good guest corner! This is the Dorset Bench with Nailheads from Serena & Lily, which you can check out by clicking here. Add a couple of pillows and a a throw — and you’re all set!

The bookshelves have a lot of personal items and books, which I think is a fun way for guests to get a sense of who I am! I’ve added random little things I love like this quote (above) and also a strange black wooden decoy (duck) that I bought at the flea market! TBD if my visitors are charmed or totally freaked out! Ha!

I’m proud to share this space with my family and friends. With that said… I’m now accepting guests — who wants to sign up?!

Like I’ve mentioned, I really aim to add a few thoughtful touches here and there to make visitors feel special and comfortable. Here are a few items that will make your overnight guests feel right at home (below)!

1. Riviere Luggage Rack 2. Malin+Goetz Travel Essentials  3. COCOCOZY Logo Lucite Tray

4. Perrier Sparkling Water 5. Gobi Bath Towels  6.Santa Maria Nouvella Primavera Room Spray

Having a luggage rack makes unpacking easy and accessible for your guests! I also leave fresh, fluffy towels on the bed so they don’t have to go searching. I love creating a tray of goodies like bottled or sparkling water and toiletries that they may have forgotten in their packing. Lotions, soap, mints, razors, etc. are always good to have on hand! Finally, I’ll spritz the room with a fresh scent to make it extra inviting!

Hope you’re inspired to turn your guest bedroom into a full-out travel destination!

Happy Thursday!

Happy Labor Day! 🇺🇸 Here’s a little throwback toHappy Labor Day! 🇺🇸
Here’s a little throwback to a Labor Day dinner party I hosted a few years ago, and honestly, we’d still do it this way. 🥂✨
Hosting this Labor Day? Keep it simple:
• Set the table with one statement detail + neutral basics
• Choose a menu you can prep ahead so you’re not cooking all night
• Add candles or flowers to make the table feel special
• Serve everything family-style for a more relaxed feel
• Don’t overthink it. The best dinners are the ones where everyone lingers a little longer 🤍
Save this for your next dinner party and send it to someone who’s hosting! 🍽️

The bouclé sofa isn’t a trend, it’s a commitment. The bouclé sofa isn’t a trend, it’s a commitment. Soft, sculptural, and impossible to walk past without wanting to sit down. The rooms that get it right pair it with something unexpected: a dramatic mural, an antique screen, a city skyline, a hand-laid mosaic floor.

A well-designed bunk room isn’t just for kids. It’s about making every guest feel like they got the best bed in the house. Built-in storage, thoughtful lighting, and bedding that actually makes you want to climb up top.
Save this for your next build or renovation inspo and follow for more. 🖤

This Toronto home just redefined “warm modern.” 🤎 This Toronto home just redefined “warm modern.” 🤎
Designer Ashley Montgomery layered reclaimed wood beams, brass hardware, and deep walnut millwork against soft plaster walls, and somehow every single room still feels calm. The olive built-ins in the living room, the arched oak doors, that brass shower enclosure in the primary bath... this is what happens when someone actually commits to a palette.
Swipe through and tell us which room you’d move into first. 👇

How much summer can you fit into a few days? ☀️⛵️How much summer can you fit into a few days? ☀️⛵️
I flew from Los Angeles to Nantucket for a very quick trip and I’m planning to find out.
Beautiful beaches, boats, gorgeous interiors, time with friends and one last little dose of August.
Turns out you don’t always need a whole week to feel like you got away. 🤍
So happy to be visiting bestie @francesgfayard and her husband Calvin and my godson Carter for a little last minute end of summer travel. New England at its best. Day 1 was a beautiful day. 🤩
