LOVELY SMALL DANISH SUMMER COTTAGE

August 5, 2014
  • Share

In the Danish island seaside town of Horbaek, this small 1200 square foot weekend house was transformed from a small 1950s bungalow into a beautiful quaint light bright cottage.

I like this sweet little space owned by designer Henrik Hviid.  It was once just a 400 square foot house that has tripled in size over the years…and now makes for a nice summer weekend house.

I think I would like to visit Denmark in the summer.

White painted wood floors, white walls, simple furnishings..and a charcoal gray exterior that blends oh so well with the lush green plants and trees in the yard.

I hope you enjoy this tour of the Danish Summer Cottage. Happy Tuesday!

P.S.  Going to dinner tonight with TE to super duper fabulous summer COCOCOZY intern JHR’s house.  Her parents invited us.  JHR came on board two months ago for our internship (yes it is paid) and did a SPECTACULAR job.  She goes back to school next week for her senior year.  I will miss her.  She’s taking a few COCOCOZY pillows and throws with her to spruce up her college apartment.  Can’t wait to see how the pillows look!

P.P.S.  Speaking of TE, did I mention that he cooked for me and his family on Friday, Saturday and Sunday?  His dad and wife were in town over the weekend and we had such a great time…including a visit to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art fot the “Van Gogh to Kandinsky” exhibit.  TE made salmon one night for 7 people, carnitas on Saturday for 5 people.  On Sunday, it was just me and him at my tiny little cottage in the Hollywood Hills; after we walked some secret stairs around the corner from my places, he whipped up a wonderful stir fry and we danced  and talked out on my deck under an umbrella in the rain until about 11p.  Was so much fun.  Feel lucky that I have a guy that loves to cook!  Very nice.

P.P.P.S.  Looking for another part-time paid intern by the way… if you know anyone in the Los Angeles area…a smart bright student type who is eager, smart, precise and resourceful…email us at [email protected] with resumes!

Awww, Now this is what I am use too. Lush grounds. White wood ceilings, and the smell of the ocean.

A great parquet floor doesn’t just ground a room. A great parquet floor doesn’t just ground a room. It tells you everything about the history of the space. The patina, the pattern, the way light moves across it. These are the rooms that prove good bones never go out of style.
What’s your favorite parquet pattern?

Designer Emma Donnersberg took her own Paris apartment in the 7th arrondissement and used it to rewrite the rules — classical bones, contemporary everything else. Her Wave Sofa and U&Me Table anchor the living room in organic curves. In the kitchen, a green ceramic-wrapped island does the heavy lifting for color against all that neutral stone. And the dining room? A Carrara travertine fireplace that turns stone into the whole point of the room.
Curved, curated, and completely hers. 🤍

A little peek at one of my favorite outdoor spaces, which I designed years ago. The patterned tile, navy seating, white stucco, and layers of greenery make this balcony feel like a little room all its own.
I love how much personality you can create in a small outdoor space without making it feel overcrowded.

Want a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and invitingWant a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and inviting? Start with these simple changes:
1. Layer your bedding. Mix sheets, a duvet, quilts, and throw blankets to create that plush, lived-in look.
2. Add warm lighting. Swap harsh overhead lighting for bedside lamps, sconces, or a statement light with a warm glow.
3. Bring in plenty of texture. Think linen, velvet, boucle, chunky knits, and soft rugs.
4. Keep the palette warm and calming. Soft neutrals, earthy tones, and muted colors instantly make a room feel more restful.
5. Mix in natural materials. Wood, rattan, woven accents, and stone add warmth and character.
6. Make the walls feel personal. Art, photographs, or even a statement headboard can make the room feel more finished.
7. Add something organic. A vase of branches, fresh flowers, or a little greenery can bring the room to life.
The goal isn’t to make your bedroom perfect. It’s to make it feel like a place you actually want to retreat to at the end of the day.
Save this for your next bedroom refresh. 🤎

The right chandelier doesn’t just light a room, it becomes the room. Scale, material, placement. When it’s done right, everything else arranges itself around it.
