OSCAR EMERGENCY!

February 25, 2011

Sparkly short sleeved dress from Jason Wu's Fall 2011 runway show

Best of friend Anne and I got the best email ever yesterday. The email was from Anne’s sister-in-law MM. The title of the email was “OSCAR EMERGENCY”.

I saw the title of said email while I was driving to work (I was at a stop light on Mulholland where it crosses Coldwater Canyon so I was not driving and reading emails…fyi…)…”OSCAR EMERGENCY”. Oscar emergency? What is an Oscar emergency? Huh. I chuckled and smiled and thought how fabulous that someone is actually having an Oscar emergency. Then I read the email…

As it turns out Anne’s other very posh sister-in-law SM was headed to Los Angeles today (Friday) because she and her husband, a posh business executive, had just been invited VIP style to the Oscars (or they just decided to go…or something)…anyhooooo…MM (the first sister-in-law…who owns a fabulous children’s furnishings store named tottini in Seattle) was emailing me and Anne for names of stylists who might pull gowns for SM.

Complicated but this is all to say…Anne’s posh sister-in-law indeed was having an OSCAR EMERGENCY…no dress, a big star studded event to go to on Sunday and no time….an emergency indeed!

So after Anne and I lamented on the phone about how much we wanted to have an OSCAR EMERGENCY…we wanted to be flown into to town to find a fabulous dress and then sashay down the red carpet…and look gorgeous and drink champagne and smile and laugh and hobknob…and…strut and look great and smile and laugh and be photographed and blah blah blah….I finally jumped into action and connected SM with my fabulous style consultant who dresses stars like Reese Witherspoon etc.

SM is flying in this morning and meeting with my lady from 10-12. Hopefully the OSCAR EMERGENCY will be resolved!

This got me thinking though…what would I want to wear if I was all of a sudden asked today to attend the Academy Awards?

I’d wear any of these gowns. A little sparkly, sleek, sophisticated, feminine…and dare I say slightly sexy…

Would you want to have an OSCAR EMERGENCY…if so, what look would you go for on the red carpet?

Well I am not going to the Oscars…but feel well accomplished that I might have been able to help someone out who was having an OSCAR EMERGENCY!

Happy Friday!

How fabulous it is that you were able to help her out! I would be going CRAZY. It’s funny that your first pic is a Jason Wu stunner. He would completely be my first choice. The pictures I saw from fashion week were incredible. I hope you have the grandest weekend!

Tell your oscar emergency friend to go to “Jaimie Geller Jewelry”, in the Pacific Palisades… She carries my jewelry line, and has a fresh box of divine jewels for the stylist to look at too. The collection is http://www.laurenharpercollection.com, carried at http://www.jaimiegellerjewelry.com.

Hope she has fun! Love your blog!

Oohhh, there is nothing more fun than dressing up! I’d wear any one of Donna Karran’s Spring 2011 beaded dresses.

Jason Woo’s dress is simply stunning and how well does is contrast with the model’s skin tone. Stunning! Elie Saab’s dress is also very sexy. I love it.

A great parquet floor doesn’t just ground a room. A great parquet floor doesn’t just ground a room. It tells you everything about the history of the space. The patina, the pattern, the way light moves across it. These are the rooms that prove good bones never go out of style.

Designer Emma Donnersberg took her own Paris apartment in the 7th arrondissement and used it to rewrite the rules — classical bones, contemporary everything else. Her Wave Sofa and U&Me Table anchor the living room in organic curves. In the kitchen, a green ceramic-wrapped island does the heavy lifting for color against all that neutral stone. And the dining room? A Carrara travertine fireplace that turns stone into the whole point of the room.
Curved, curated, and completely hers. 🤍

A little peek at one of my favorite outdoor spaces, which I designed years ago. The patterned tile, navy seating, white stucco, and layers of greenery make this balcony feel like a little room all its own.
I love how much personality you can create in a small outdoor space without making it feel overcrowded.

Want a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and invitingWant a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and inviting? Start with these simple changes:
1. Layer your bedding. Mix sheets, a duvet, quilts, and throw blankets to create that plush, lived-in look.
2. Add warm lighting. Swap harsh overhead lighting for bedside lamps, sconces, or a statement light with a warm glow.
3. Bring in plenty of texture. Think linen, velvet, boucle, chunky knits, and soft rugs.
4. Keep the palette warm and calming. Soft neutrals, earthy tones, and muted colors instantly make a room feel more restful.
5. Mix in natural materials. Wood, rattan, woven accents, and stone add warmth and character.
6. Make the walls feel personal. Art, photographs, or even a statement headboard can make the room feel more finished.
7. Add something organic. A vase of branches, fresh flowers, or a little greenery can bring the room to life.
The goal isn’t to make your bedroom perfect. It’s to make it feel like a place you actually want to retreat to at the end of the day.
Save this for your next bedroom refresh. 🤎
