PIPING AND PLAID!

When in NY a few weeks ago, my very fashionable friend Amie Robinson mentioned that she had gone to the showroom of a cool new designer – she was raving about this designer’s clothes and showroom. Amie has great fashion instincts so when I got home, I immediately popped onto my computer and had to look up clothing designer Lauren Moffatt. Amie was of course right…Lauren’s fall collection is indeed awesome.

In particular, I love Lauren’s outerwear which includes a cool plaid bomber jacket and 2 great navy capes with colorful trim. These coats inspired today’s post…piping and plaid in fashion and in home decor and furnishings too!

Had a small group over my house this weekend…even though it was just wine and cheese, I had to have the plaid plates for my table. I bought 12! They are a good price too and great for outdoor or indoor entertaining.

Thanks Amie for turning me onto Lauren…I think I must have the bomber jacket for fall!

Readers, anything here strike your fancy? Or any other trend you like for fall in home decor or fashion?

Hope you have a great Monday!

I have always loved plaid and contrast welting is sort of a signature of mine. With summer basically over it is time to pull out the plaid pillows, throws, lampshades and btw, I love those crate and barrel plates also. Fun post!

Love this post. It is so “fall fresh”. The Lauren Moffatt bomber jacket is so classy AND hip. I also can’t get enough of the crispness and beauty of black furniture with white/ivory piping.

My mother bought a sofa in the late 70’s that’s a dead ringer for the Brookside sofa from WSH. She said it was a fortune at the time, but she had to have it along with 2 chairs in the same style. 30 years later, that furniture has been re-upholstered in everything from brown velvet to some kind of nubby tweedy thing to the current fabric… a solid white. It’s striking, simple, timeless. And I ask my mother all the time “When are you going to give me those?”

Piping cool, plaid not so cool. Plaid reminds me of recliners.

Wow. Are these pictures indicating that plaid is making a come back? Yikes- I’m not sure I’m ready for that. But I love the jacket 😉

Nour Arida’s (@nouraridaofficial) Paris apartment Nour Arida’s (@nouraridaofficial) Paris apartment was designed to feel like a little piece of Beirut — a pied-à-terre that keeps her connected to Lebanon while living in France.
Architect Carl Gerges @carlgergesarchitects built the whole interior around warmth and softness: a caramel sofa, a pink kitchen, milky whites throughout. Nothing sharp, nothing cold. The palette reads as indulgent without trying. It’s the kind of space that feels like it was chosen for comfort first and aesthetics second, even though both are clearly considered.
What’s easy to miss is the restraint underneath it all. The softness works because it’s disciplined. Every piece earns its place in the same tonal story.

Why do Paris apartments feel so much better than e Why do Paris apartments feel so much better than everything else?
While living in this cute 3 bed 2 bath apartment in the 6ème, I realized it comes down to a few things done really well:
• High ceilings
They create space without adding anything
• Herringbone wood floors
Classic, subtle, and never go out of style
• Crown molding + ceiling medallions
The detail that quietly elevates the entire room
• Interior French doors
They give you openness and separation at the same time
• Natural light
The one thing you can’t fake
I’m staying in this adorable pied-a-terre for a two months. It is my sister and brother in law’s place; they invited me to cozy up here on my own while they are back home in LA.
Every room keeps proving the same point. It’s not about adding more. It’s about getting the foundation right.
If you could only bring one of these Paris apartment design elements into your home, which one would it be?

I remember building each outfit around a coat or a scarf, with comfortable shoes that could take me anywhere, knowing I would be out for hours just walking.
Nothing overthought, just pieces that felt right for the pace of the day.
What would be your OOTD for a cold day in Paris?
