FIVE BEDROOMS WITH INTERNATIONAL APPEAL!

August 31, 2010

Bedroom by Martyn Lawrence Bullard with black canopy bed, Moroccan star mirrors and a sisal rug

I am so intrigued by these bedrooms created by celebrity interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard. So many layers to explore and enjoy. Fun and daring but tasteful and elegant at the same time. All with a certain international appeal from all over the globe; strong influences from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and more. Bullard shows a complete lack of fear, in fact bravery, when mixing genres, fabrics, colors, textures and even cultures…it seems that the world was his design palette allowing him to dream up these beautiful boudoirs.

The beds play the starring role in all of these rooms…from a Chinoiserie inspired toile drape and crown, to a mahogany turned wood traditional four poster, to a lovely little daybed with canopy…all of these beds make big decor statements.

Can’t decide which is my favorite…so many choices…although the blue room below was what first caught my eye.

Bedroom by Martyn Lawrence Bullard with patterned area rug, striped throw, blue and white patterned armchair, and three framed pictures of giraffes over the headboard

Blue bedroom by Martyn Lawrence Bullard with light blue four poster bed, blue Moroccan star lamp, blue and white wallpaper and three framed portraits

Bedroom by Martyn Lawrence Bullard with red tolie wallpaper and canopy and Moroccan inspired headboard

Bedroom by Martyn Lawrence Bullard with red swiggly wallpaper on the walls and a wallpapered ceiling, white canopy bed, Moroccan mirrors and nightstands and two armchairs

Thank you Martyn for sharing these gorgeous rooms (and to Victoria who actually sent me these photos from Martyn’s portfolio). Also, a huge congratulations to Martyn on being announced as the Andrew Martin Interior Designer of the Year Award winner. Well deserved!

I think I would like Martyn to come add some texture, color, life and international allure to my bedroom in my tiny cottage in the Hollywood Hills…it certainly could use it.

Have a great Tuesday and happy last day of August! Must go get ready for work!

Coco

P.S. Sorry…said I was going to get ready for work…not quite true…still typing. For those of you who are star watchers…as an fyi…Martyn’s client list includes Hollywood heavy hitters like Cher, Sir Elton John and David Furnish, Christina Aguilera, Eva Mendes, Ellen Pompeo, Kid Rock, Sharon and Ozzie Osbourne. Just realized after typing this list…might be hard to get him to make a detour to my smidge of a house considering his schedule and clients… :-)!

P.P.S. Going to get ready for work now. Hmmm…what should I wear? Might just throw on something with sparkles in my hair or around my neck just to confuse people in my office…”why is she wearing a tiara to work?” they might wonder or say. I’ve got to keep them guessing at all times…hee hee…

I am really liking the ebony and red theme! And those giraffe pictures are just perfect above the bed.

I’d love to pull off something with “international appeal”…, to bring the ambiance of all the places together that I’ve been to and love…, French Riviera, England…, Amalfi Coast, Northern California, the Hamptons, and a tad of my homeland (Switzerland)- all in one room!

I really like the arrangement of 3 art pieces with the center higher over the bed in photos 1 and 3. It emphasizes the beds nicely and I don’t think I’ve seen it done before.

Hmmm, I agree. Tough choices! But really, I could come home and sleep in any of them!

GOD! I’m so lovin’ poster beds right now…

The blue poster bed is one fine beauty. I snagged a nice poster bed at a local thrift store late last year and did a makeover on it. It’s my favorite project yet.

I really like the 3rd (blue) bedroom ultimately pulled together by the beautiful framed photos of the African Tribal Women. I believe these photos would be from Han Silvester’s book: Natural Fashion: Tribal Decoration from Africa, a book of exquisite photos of natives dressed in their local flora. These photos are stunning on the wall of this bedroom. Betty in TX

Nour Arida’s (@nouraridaofficial) Paris apartment Nour Arida’s (@nouraridaofficial) Paris apartment was designed to feel like a little piece of Beirut — a pied-à-terre that keeps her connected to Lebanon while living in France.
Architect Carl Gerges @carlgergesarchitects built the whole interior around warmth and softness: a caramel sofa, a pink kitchen, milky whites throughout. Nothing sharp, nothing cold. The palette reads as indulgent without trying. It’s the kind of space that feels like it was chosen for comfort first and aesthetics second, even though both are clearly considered.
What’s easy to miss is the restraint underneath it all. The softness works because it’s disciplined. Every piece earns its place in the same tonal story.
→ Save this if you’re building a warm, tonal interior from scratch.

Why do Paris apartments feel so much better than e Why do Paris apartments feel so much better than everything else?
While living in this cute 3 bed 2 bath apartment in the 6ème, I realized it comes down to a few things done really well:
• High ceilings
They create space without adding anything
• Herringbone wood floors
Classic, subtle, and never go out of style
• Crown molding + ceiling medallions
The detail that quietly elevates the entire room
• Interior French doors
They give you openness and separation at the same time
• Natural light
The one thing you can’t fake
I’m staying in this adorable pied-a-terre for a two months. It is my sister and brother in law’s place; they invited me to cozy up here on my own while they are back home in LA.
Every room keeps proving the same point. It’s not about adding more. It’s about getting the foundation right.
If you could only bring one of these Paris apartment design elements into your home, which one would it be?

It is warmer here now, but these were the looks I It is warmer here now, but these were the looks I reached for in Paris when the days were still cold. ❄️
I remember building each outfit around a coat or a scarf, with comfortable shoes that could take me anywhere, knowing I would be out for hours just walking.
Nothing overthought, just pieces that felt right for the pace of the day.
What would be your OOTD for a cold day in Paris?
