PLAYA GRANDE BEACH CLUB ADVENTURE

Perfected paradise.  That is how I would describe the Playa Grande Beach Club in the Dominican Republic.  The boutique resort sits along the north coast of the island of Santo Domingo.  From the imagination of investment manager Boykin Curry and his wife acclaimed interior designer Celerie Kemble, this island getaway delivers an idyllic fantasy experience.  From the carved wood fretwork, to the soothing colors, to all of the charm and whimsy in the metalwork, amazing cement tile floors, beautiful vistas and the overall attention to design detail throughout, I have been awestruck since I arrived on Saturday.

My best of friend AM and her husband JE own a house and a guest house on the property along with a two of their friends.  Feel very happy to be in this paradise with good friends…relaxing, catching up and enjoying the amazing views.

From a design perspective, the interiors are so charming that I have felt completely all over the place. Instead of focusing on my wonderful friends and our conversations, my eyes keep darting left and then right and then up and then down as I catch a design moment that is so well done.  I know this is going to sound weird…but a place this pretty makes me anxious.  It makes me anxious because I know I will never be able to tell the full story with pictures or words.  I know I can’t capture it all so I start to get nervous.   After blogging for this many years, you would think I would be able to make some editorial decisions about what to post.  You might also think that I would artfully be able to tell an effective pictorial story.   Well I cannot.  There are just too many wonderful things to see.  I am having a bit of a crisis.  In this post you will just see random vignettes from Playa Grande Beach Club.  The best I could do as I am having a design meltdown!  Arghhhhh.

Anyhoooo, I left Los Angeles on Friday night…then my flight was delayed 3 hours…then I landed in NYC and flew here with best of friend AM, JE, our friend MR and their kids.  So far…so good…in paradise perfected.

TE couldn’t be here as he is working in Europe this week.  He would love it.  I know my mom and sister would love it too.  I will have to bring them all back…most definitely.

I will try to post more.  Hope you enjoyed this glimpse.  Must run.  AM has just said the ocean is delightful and wants me to go swimming with her and the kids.  Think I’ll oblige.

Happy Monday!

I totally agree with the feeling of being anxious by good design! The same thing happens to me, there is too much to take in and I’m afraid that I won’t be able to absorb it all!

Nour Arida’s (@nouraridaofficial) Paris apartment Nour Arida’s (@nouraridaofficial) Paris apartment was designed to feel like a little piece of Beirut — a pied-à-terre that keeps her connected to Lebanon while living in France.
Architect Carl Gerges @carlgergesarchitects built the whole interior around warmth and softness: a caramel sofa, a pink kitchen, milky whites throughout. Nothing sharp, nothing cold. The palette reads as indulgent without trying. It’s the kind of space that feels like it was chosen for comfort first and aesthetics second, even though both are clearly considered.
What’s easy to miss is the restraint underneath it all. The softness works because it’s disciplined. Every piece earns its place in the same tonal story.
→ Save this if you’re building a warm, tonal interior from scratch.

London based interior designers at Studio Ashby @s London based interior designers at Studio Ashby @studioashby along with French architect Antoinette Zalewski @antoinettezalewskiarchitecte transformed this St Germain residence from two separate units into a seamless, elevated whole. New parquet floors, restored panelling, a bespoke staircase, and custom rugs. Every detail shaped by skilled fine craftsmen and a serene, neutral palette drawn from the colours of Paris itself. ✨

Good food, beautiful interiors, and time well spent with family.
Always nice to be back here.

Why do Paris apartments feel so much better than e Why do Paris apartments feel so much better than everything else?
While living in this cute 3 bed 2 bath apartment in the 6ème, I realized it comes down to a few things done really well:
• High ceilings
They create space without adding anything
• Herringbone wood floors
Classic, subtle, and never go out of style
• Crown molding + ceiling medallions
The detail that quietly elevates the entire room
• Interior French doors
They give you openness and separation at the same time
• Natural light
The one thing you can’t fake
I’m staying in this adorable pied-a-terre for a two months. It is my sister and brother in law’s place; they invited me to cozy up here on my own while they are back home in LA.
Every room keeps proving the same point. It’s not about adding more. It’s about getting the foundation right.
If you could only bring one of these Paris apartment design elements into your home, which one would it be?

It is warmer here now, but these were the looks I It is warmer here now, but these were the looks I reached for in Paris when the days were still cold. ❄️
I remember building each outfit around a coat or a scarf, with comfortable shoes that could take me anywhere, knowing I would be out for hours just walking.
Nothing overthought, just pieces that felt right for the pace of the day.
What would be your OOTD for a cold day in Paris?
