PRETTY SITTING ROOM!

November 29, 2010

Sitting room with painted ceiling, grey carpet, brown walls, white armchair, white Frances Elkin lacquer chair and white curtains with brown and white embroidered trim

Hope you had a great holiday weekend! I did! I had a wonderful weekend (oh except for the part where I got a computer virus on Thanksgiving morning and spent 3 hours trying to get rid of it…I finally found a video on Youtube where some 14 year old kid with braces explained how to get rid of the virus…it worked…thanks kid with the braces!)!

Anyhooooooo….wouldn’t it be nice to have space for a sitting room in your home? A place off of your bedroom where you could sit and read, write letters, handle light correspondence and have a wonderful cup of tea. I like this chocolate brown and white his and hers sitting room. Very tailored and quite a nice space to sit…!

I’m sitting on a hard cold chair in my kitchen right now…my “sitting room”…hmmmm…

Well…no time to sit this Monday though…so much to do.

Sitting room with brown walls, a white sofa, tufted brown ottoman with white piping, a lantern, built in bookshelf and a round table with a brown and white table cloth

Sitting room with brown walls, grey carpet floor, detail trim painted on the ceiling, built in shelves and a brown polka dot upholstered sette

while I like this sitting area…I think my favorite element to the room is the detail trim painted on the ceiling. Love this added touch.

What do you think of this room? Where do you sit to read and write and just sit in your home?

Hope you have a fantastic Monday!

xo

That room is gorgeous! I love everything about it, especially the browns and the mix of patterns.

I just posted today about mixing patterns. If I had seen these photos, I would have included them.

Thank you for the siting room inspiration. I actually do have a chair and desk in my bedroom, but my beagle usually gets to the seat first!

yes, that is pretty! i feel like i wouldn’t use a sitting room, we have a formal living room and we don’t use it, maybe for our next cocktail party?

Ooooh, this is such a pretty room! LOVE the detail on the ceiling. OMG, I could do this on my dining room ceiling… where’s the painters tape?! I also love the ottoman – adore the look of contrasting piping. And love the beautiful pattern on the table skirt & cushions.

This room needs to go into my inspiration folder pronto! THANK YOU for sharing it!

LOVE this room! I’ve been dying to paint a room brown in my house – probably the powder room! And the Frances Elkin chair has always been a favorite. In my old house, I actually did have a sitting room off the bedroom and it was lovely. Now I’m either in the kitchen or in my tiny office upstairs.

This room is fabulous…makes me realize how much I love brown. I’m a bedtime reader, yet I have no sitting area – just read (and fall asleep) in bed!!

I recognize the white sconce — was drooling over it on Neiman’s website. I like the room, but it is a little over-decorated to me. Thanks for all the great posts!

Keep it simple. No need for bells and whistles an Keep it simple. No need for bells and whistles and fancy things to make your house a home. In this picture, a plant, two chairs I found at the flea market, a layered rug situation and some modern art...de-cluttered space can be equally as inviting as one filled with memories and treasures. If you are stuck with how to decorate, I say keep it simple. Purge and start with the basics. Full disclosure, this is a shot of my living room from a few years ago when I first moved in...I didn’t even have drapes up when this was taken. I have since added pieces and changed out furniture and added a 2nd sofa...but it started super simple and it was lovely back then. When the world is swirling around us and making no sense, how are you keeping things simple at home? #socococozy #bringstylehome #cococozy
Pre-pandemic throw back photo to where I was last Pre-pandemic throw back photo to where I was last year. Clueless as to what was to come. Was in Paris, with my mom, enjoying her summer apartment in the middle of the 6th arrondissement. I had just left the U.K. visiting friends for a few days in London and the Cotswolds. None of us knew that this summer 2020 would be so different. Today, I can only hope this time of tumult and great divides leads somehow to a future of calm and harmony. Going backwards in time is not an option. Pushing forward is. Happy Sunday to you. Where were you last summer? Where do you imagine you’ll be next? Xoxo #socococozy #bringstylehome

Life lesson from a room transformation: When faced with the daunting and not so pretty, look to do the work, and you can make changes to bring out what is good. Right? Am in my living room right now looking at these pretty flowers in that white urn I found lying around. The urn works (see Flower Power highlights for backstory). Thinking on who I might send one of these bouquets to today as a little act of kindness. Still working on the patience piece of her advice! 🤪 Who might you send flowers to? How can you be more patient with yourself? Happy Saturday!
