Hmmm…..my morning…5am wake up with alarm…5:20 actually wake up…5:30-6:30am no accounting for time as I pretended to work at my computer, brush teeth, wash face, stare out of the window, put on aforementioned UGGs, light fireplace, turn on heater, swear out loud how cold it is in my tiny Hollywood Hills home, sit at my computer, quiet the dog who is whining, stare at my computer and it goes on for an hour like this….6:30a UPS guy drops off a package that was supposed to come on Saturday morning (grrrr….) and I tell him how disappointed I am in UPS and he ignores me…6:45a Earl Grey tea…7am still no work done in vortex of sorts of doing stuff but not doing anything…7:05a I wonder to myself, “self, I wonder how much $29 million would buy me in Montecito, California?”(this could be the part that is not quite what happened; in other words not sure this was my exact musing or if I was scrambling to think of post ideas and I decided real estate is a good idea)…7:10 I come across the house featured in today’s post….8:15a I begin to write post (note, I do have a job I have to report to at 9a…not looking good in the timeliness-to-work area at this point). So you see…there is a method to my madness…2-3 hours after waking up…I finally come up with something to blog about…smart use of time…right?
Anyhooooooo….that brings us to today’s story…a 1920s Spanish style villa in GORGEOUS Montecito, CA. 7 bedroom, 10.5 baths, a 75 foot pool, 7 acres of land, a guest house, tennis court, Japanese garden, stunning Montecito views and all offered by Sotheby’s International Realty for just a mere $29 million! Yup. $29 million!
Can’t quite figure out the square footage on this one but once again…I would take it in a minute if someone offered it to me. I love California Mediterranean vintage homes.
Take a look…
So would you take this house or leave it? I would DEFINITELY take it. I find it quite charming…all $29 million of it! I might make some tweaks here and there (the kitchen could use a little doing) and of course, I would lighten up and brighten up the decor…but other than that…I’m in. How about you?
Happy Monday!

I’m in! Thank you for your fun blogs, always a pleasure.
Wow, this is my dream house realized. I had an architectural footprint of my dream home designed a couple years ago and it’s almost as if I had a premonition of this house in my head when I was describing it to the architect. So, yes, I’m in. Thanks for posting!! Love your blog and I back you on the white rooms. Love it!
Obviously anything for $29mm is going to be pretty nice, but this place sort of falls flat for me. It seems pretty generic. I actually just wrote in a recent blog post of mine about how real estate photos tend toward the boring because they’re staged to look appealing to as many people as possible. Whereas interior design features are meant to showcase the personality of the owners – the exact opposite of real estate photos. Though, unfortunately, real estate photos are often the only peek we get into many homes like this.
I’d take it too, if someone wanted to give it to me! It’s got great bones and grounds. I agree with you, I’d modernize the kitchen and lighten up the decor. (I’m a mid-century modern grrl.)
Love Love Love this house. Not sure what I would do with all the space but I sure would give it a try! First thing I would tackle is that gorgeous hallway it seems so lonely. Thanks for sharing!
LOVE this post! You had me laughing out loud… really. I know all about “doing stuff but not really doing anything.”
Yeah, I would take that house. Loved the heavy and distressed wooden door(s) and the hallway with the tiled floor and groin vaulted ceiling took my breath away! Thanks for sharing.
You have a great sense of humor! I had to laugh!
The house? It’s got potential….
Honestly, the house is nice, the view is nicer and I do not believe I would spend that much on the killer view!
The inside: Interior wise run of the mill, of course that could be changed.
I love a great Mediterranean house, but I would pass this!
Give me a tenth of the money and I’ll find a house I will be utterly happy with!

I could TOTALLY see myself in this house (if I had married rich or inherited well!!) I also think that we have a VERY similar morning routine 😉
I’m in since I love a Spanish Mediterranean anytime. This house has a ton of character and of course we’d all redecorate, but the grounds and pool & palm trees are perfection!
Absurd! Generally really enjoy your postings until you tip over into the absurd – you are talking to 2% (maybe) of the most wealthiest in America & world! Come back to reality, and get back to the basics – show me enriched living on a shoestring budget. That will WOW me! Happy Holidays!
^WOW-it’s hard to take someone’s wish for “Happy Holidays” very serious when they are the grinch=/
Nothing wrong with having some fun dreaming and showing others what $29 mill will get ‘cha in Montecito. Personally, I agree with most that it is fantastic but I would also just make some decor/structural changes- mostly the kitchen and bedrooms. Thanks for sharing!
Gorgeous home!!!! LOVE THE VIEW!!! Love the front door… love the kitchen. Yes, we can all dream… 🙂
Yeah, I think it’s overkill in so many ways. Cold. Besides, think about how complicated your life would be if you really had a $29M home? LESS IS MORE! I’ll stick with my adorable 1930 Cape Cod cottage. (However, the gorgeous view certainly doesn’t hurt my feelings!!)

Um yes please! Maybe if we all pool our money….

You are so funny! I’m glad this is the post subject you picked. I love all the architectural details!
The views are worth any amount of money. Montecito is so wonderful – my dream is to move there once all the kids are out of school here in Drearyland. The kitchen floor is horrible though. I would bargain the house down to 14 mil and point out the terrible real estate market and how much I would have to spend to update the kitchen.
Then I would sit outside and be happy. Thanks for sharing.
Definitely a take…and the view…stunning!!
A fixer-upper, but lots of potential!
Wait that was my morning you described??? Even the UGG’s were correct…however I got very jealous reading you live in Hollywood Hills. I only wish…
I believe this house used to belong to Diandra Douglas, Michael Douglas’ ex-wife. I think it was the one posted on Cote de Texas awhile back. Beautiful home – don’t know who owns it now, maybe she still does??? Older but timeless.
Well, isn’t it just fun to wonder, what if? Why does everything have to be serious? What kind of windows are these? I’ve seen this style, which looks like metal framed glass before, in other high end homes. They are just so stunning.
OMG! Move me in tomorrow.
Oh yes yes yes I would take it! It is a gorgeous home! Thank you for sharing!
xx

wow! I could do some serious cooking and entertaining in that house! love it!!

Could this house be anymore appealing?! I’m in love with that living/family room. Could that even be called a chandelier because it is so massive?! It is stunning and definitely up my alley! Thanks for sharing!

Some wonderful houses just seems to “steal” our hearts, eh?
I am always, ( I mean ALWAYS) posting about houses like these on my blog. I simply love seeing these kind of houses, because they’re so inspiring. Even if you don’t have the money to buy it, you can also be inspired by it, to add the same color or, sometimes, the same style to you home. Also, it’s always fun to day-dream. Don’t you agree?

Any idea if that movie The Craft was filmed here? It looks very familiar to me from many of the scenes. What a gorgeous home.
This is such a great residence because it’s NOT over-done or ‘cold’ as another poster mentioned. It feels simple, fresh, and airy. Love that the kitchen banquette back cushions are hung on a rod. Very clever.

Really appreciate many things about Spanish Mediterranean style homes, but couldn’t even afford the gorgeously rustic front door; even in my dreams. @sweetsy: Sharing my opinion with the author wasn’t meant to insult them or other blog followers, so why the name calling, & doubt, it was very pointed & personal. Why can’t I disagree? Other followers have disagreed, and you haven’t commented towards their posts negatively. I am speaking for myself, not others here. Dream all you want…
Not my thing… BUT… I love the tile in photo 5! And that beautiful blue and white chevron rug in photo 7! Stunning! 🙂
