I like this house…rustic modern! Designed by Kay Douglass owner of famed Atlanta store South of Market. The home’s decor finds its roots in Europe…Belgium to be exact. Classic lines…rustic unfinished materials…natural fibers…simple design…are all the order of the day.
I’m loving the dining room with its raw wood plank ceiling and linen covered Parsons chairs. Something very romantic about this I think.
What do you think of this look? Could you live with it or without it? Not quite my style but I think I could live with it.
Happy Thursday!

love the planks on the ceiling!
Love, love, love it!!
Love the look, style, lighting, and furniture in this home. It’s totally me and I would love this in my house.
I love the warmth that the rustic wood gives this room. It’s amazing how the clean lines, modern look mixed with a bit of country really goes so well.
I love it. The rustic touches with the refined parts is really nicely done.
Stunning!! Absolutely adore this stylish space. And love the store too – so no surprise!!
I would love to see some fabulous art on the walls! Great design though!

Rustic. I love it
Rustic. I love it
Rustic. I love it
This look is just example of a style which will be ripped out sooner or later, and replaced with whatever is deemed to be in vogue.
I’ve seen this look twice in my career, and so I despised it.
Today’s trends are just a way of selling something now in the economic times we have lived through recently as the luxury look is even harder to afford. Wait to invest in something better when money is more plentiful.
For all the “Green” folks, stop wasting your money and the resources of the world to buy this
trend. Wait to invest in a look which has some lasting style! and value! And won’t end up in the landfills or second hand flea markets for pennies on the dollar.
I love the classic and casual feel…so livable!!
Oh I love the table and chairs.Really I like all of it but my very favorite is the table and chairs.
I like this look. Especially the wood ceilings.
I adore Belgian style, I love the earthy textures, rustic woods and linens. In your photos I especially like the dining table and chairs…gorgeous! My fav designer is Axel Vervoordt and I also mention him in my posts, I can’t help it!
I’m getting use to this look, and rather like it in small doses. Love the wood ceilings, too!

Love it. In fact, it’s made me change my mind again about my farmhouse remodel. I may have to steal a few of these design ideas.
Coco, surely that is not a raw wood ceiling? My guess is that it is reclaimed pecky cypress. It is a very popular material with devotees of the Bobby McAlpine look.
The wood planks on the ceiling in the kitchen and dining room are interesting. As I’m looking at the pictures, sometimes they make the room look upside down. But I also think it’s a great way to incorporate them while still having another choice for flooring.
the ceiling in that kitchen is incredible. what a beautiful focal point.
Actually, “Anon” this is a look that HAS been around for a long time. A seriously long time. In Europe. It isn’t simply a matter of finding a way to live with the economy the way it is right now, or “greening” the way we live. I have a difficult time believing that a designer (read: person who creates from passion) could “despise” a look because they have seen in twice in their career. What an odd reason. However, what I find more disheartening is that I have to consistently remind people that natural textiles and rough hewn planks of wood ARE luxury items, which would be why the industries involved INVENTED polyester and laminate. They were, in fact, attempting to recreate those things as cheaply as possible. It is exhausting trying to explain to people that the hand and ply of a natural fabric is in fact SUPERIOR to that of a synthetic.
Beautiful house, love the ceiling, and while, not executed in my taste, definitely a look that is easy to live with as more than a passing trend. For those that ARE trying to be green and economical, good for you, this is the way it SHOULD be. Hopefully this economy will teach people a thing or two.
Beautiful post.
One of my all-time favorite homes.
