FRENCH DOORS AND WINDOWS BRIGHTEN UP A SUNROOM.

Sun room in a Nantucket home

These are pictures from a Nantucket design show house…a house put on display and decorated by some of Nantucket’s best interior decorators. I went to this show house a few years back with my friends FF and JL (now JH).

The overall decor of the house was quite formal and was far too traditional for my taste…but this room – the sunroom definitely appealed to my decor sensibilities. Somehow even though this sunroom featured very traditional decor, it had a modern fresh feel to it…that’s because it is a room surrounded by glass…where the outdoors is brought inside.

This room was completely surrounded with french doors and french windows. At one end is a seating area with a comfy looking rattan sofa with floral cushions and some darker wicker chairs with matching seat pillow. While the furniture (which includes a large square coffee table) definitely make the space inviting…it is really the brightness of the room that is most appealing – thanks to the french doors and window.

The other end of the sunroom features a large oval dining room table in a darker wood finish…it is surrounded by the same rattan chairs that grace the sitting area. The hurricane lamp chandelier reminds us that this house is just steps from the water in Nantucket.

As you can see below, in this rear exterior shot of this Nantucket home, the back side of the house is all about the sunroom…which looks out onto a lush garden. The high ceilings, the french doors, french windows and the Nantucket “skyline” make this sunroom bright, cheery and a place where one could happily spend time with family friends at their island getaway.

Old-world plasterwork meets contemporary furniture, and warm brown-stained wood quietly anchors every room. A conversation between heritage and modernity that never raises its voice. By @atelierdaaa 🤍
