SKYLIGHT IS THE LIMIT IN BRIGHTENING UP KITCHEN & DINING SPACES!

January 24, 2011
  • Share

Bright kitchen with skylight, pendant lights, white cabinets and drawers with long silver pulls, marble counter tops, wood floor and a round table surrounded by upholstered chairs

I am a sucker for a bright and cheerful space. Sunlight indoors is key to my happiness. In my little cottage in the Hollywood Hills pretty much the entire front of my house is windows – making my way too small house appear happy and light.

A sunny eat in kitchen is essential to me. The place where you cook and dine should have a bit of sunlight…some connection nature and with the outdoors.

Hence this post and these very airy kitchens and dining spaces featuring wonderful skylights. Oh…let there be light…in the form of a skylight…why not? I love the idea of being inside, looking up and seeing not a ceiling but the sky! A window looking up…metaphorically optimistic…practically speaking bringing the outdoors in…love it!

Kitchen with skylight and large picture window, stainless pendant light, white table with iron legs surrounded by by white chairs, a Moroccan tile floor and white drawers with long silver pulls

Dining room with skylight, table with mirrored top and black legs, ghost Louis XIV chairs, a window seat with roman windows and a tile floor

Alternative view of the dining room with a skylight and mirror table, the kitchen has white counter tops, sleek dark cabinets, floating shelves and a modern stove
Kitchen with a glass wall and ceiling and a view of a courtyard, light bulb chandelier, and long dark table surrounded by wood chairs

I found these eat-in kitchen spaces with skylights…but if thee is one room in your house that could use a skylight, which room would that be? What do you think of a skylight illuminating your eating area?

Happy Monday!

I have to have lots of light in my home. I am really pretty luck in that respect. I have a East/West exposure and the sun rises in the front of my home which is the living area. I don’t even have window coverings except where the afternoon sun comes in . I have to have light. Not sure about an skylight only because it would get dirty and that would drive me crazy not beign able to get up there and clean it. Love all of your images, Kathysue

I always love the images you post. Your blog was the first one that I started following- Cococozy is a household name here in Syracuse, NY! You inspired me to start my own blog (I just launched it last week) and I absolutely will mention the Cococozy launch (even though I only have about twenty followers)!

I am not a huge fan of white kitchens, kitchens with no uppers (where do you stash the stuff?) but these are ALL fabulous. Putting a hole in the ceiling for a skylight would only open it up to my bedroom, unfortunately!

I love natural light in a room, and I love a white kitchen–so crisp and clean looking. I’m thinking of going this route soon. I have a skylight in my master bathroom & love it!

I totally agree. I love lots of windows and a bright open home. Although a dark and moody den or bedroom is always fun too. Great photos!

I appreciate skylights and understand that in the right climate they can work. But for me, living outside Chicago and having a husband who is a roofing contractor, I will never have one. You would not believe how many leaks and mistakes from other contractors my husband is called out to fix. Just not conducive to our climate. However, we can pull off snowmen and winter holiday decor like nobody else! lol

Leaving in Seattle where clouds and rain are our daily companion for 6 straight months, skylights are the first thing I had installed in our house and some of my clients still thank me for getting them to do the same. Light is LIFE!!!

I would love to have a skylight in my kitchen, I looove light when I cook, but the location of it in my home doesn’t allow for this. I do, however have 2 in my sunroom, and I love them! The sun is always inspiring and cheerful, so I always try hard any way I can to let natural light in my home. Love your Blog Coco!!, I don’t miss a post! ^_^

Love the skylights! Or I guess one could use Solatubes with similar success. But the skylights are definitely more architectural…lovely!

Ever wondered what it feels like to have the Eiffe Ever wondered what it feels like to have the Eiffel Tower as your view? These 7 Paris spaces answer that — some hotel suites, some private residences, and each one framing it completely differently. 🫶
A gilded suite where it peers through silk drapes. A terrace set for breakfast with the Tower straight ahead. Contemporary apartments where open French doors bring it almost into the room. Classic Haussmannian grandeur on one end, sculptural modern interiors on the other; same iconic backdrop, seven entirely different ways to live with it.

The approach was deliberate restraint: restored cornices kept intact, stained oak floors, limestone tones, a mix of vintage furniture and contemporary silhouettes. Every choice earning its place. The light does the rest. Bouncing off mirrors, moving through the neutral walls across the day. 🔅
