THE BLACK & WHITE OF WORKING AT HOME!

October 24, 2012
  • Share
home office with a black desk lamp, black and white striped vase holding flowers, a white monogrammed N mug holding black pen, with a quote about finding the time in a white frame

A cute black and white home office. Right?

I found it on Norweigan blog Stylizimo.  Such a cute blog created by a 30 something year old Norweigan stylist/designer.

The clear two toned color scheme makes the space crisp and clean. Easy to think big in this cute little organized work area.

The Eames molded chairs are a great style addition. I also like all of the framed typography prints, striped black and white upholstered bench, the DIY deer head with antlers taped onto the wall, and the chalkboard calendar.  Notice how a few sprigs of dry wheat grass on the desk subtly compliment the wicker wastebasket.  Small touches and details throughout that really work.

white home office with eames chair, white desk, white rolling chest of drawers with black accents in the form of pictures frames and a striped stool

on the left pieces of tape arranged to look like a deer head, on the right three rolls of tape stacked on top of each other
white desk with white binders, computer, and small decorations. Under the desk is a white set of rolling drawers and a wicker trash can
Close up of the decorations on the desk which include rolls of black and white paper, pictures, and a white vase of flowers

What do you think of this little home office?  Any tips you can share about your own home office design?  Please comment below.

Happy Wednesday!

P.S.  Went a cute b-day party for AG…her husband TG planned it.  Got a quick chance to catch up with AS and JH there too.  Lots of funny stories told. 🙂

P.P.S.  Good news!  I had mentioned a few weeks back that an entertainment company (a cable network) was thinking of buying COCOCOZY Throws for their corporate gifting.  Well some good news!  They just placed the order yesterday.  Now we are in full on production mode.

P.P.P.S. Finally found the light fixture we are buying for COCOCOZY HQ in Beverly Hills. I love calling our small two room space headquarters…there is an element of irony to it. Anyhoooo…our HQ is going to have quite a cute chandelier in the front room. CM is ordering it today! Wooohoooo!!!! It will come in about 4-6 weeks. The HQ decorating is taking forever because we keep getting sidetracked. We moved in mid May and waited 12 weeks for our main pieces, now we are on a slow but sure mission to fill in the office decor details. Hmmmmm…maybe this black and white theme would work at COCOCOZY HQ too. Will share pictures of the progress soon.

I lovew the white, although it can be seen as cold. It’s funny little touches, makes it warm.

I would call it HQ too if I were you! (there was a lot of rhyming in that sentence…)

As for the pics, I am loving the “Home Sweet Home” in the last one.. totally DIY-worthy.

loving the black and white. so fresh and so clean! Loved too that she worked in some affordable pieces i.e. the Ikea desk and file cabinet. Good hi-lo blend. Now if only I could keep my office that clean!

In my office, I have rolls washi tape around. It’s great for sticking papers/reminders on the wall without destroying the paint! Another must is baskets for magazines. I have three Ikea magazine racks line up around the room. Finally, a good chair- away from your computer, for pondering, curling up and reading.

Thank you so much for your kind words, and for featuring my home office.
I´m sitting in this office right now, but it´s not that white and crisp no more.I have painted it black 🙂

This Haussmannian apartment sits directly facing N This Haussmannian apartment sits directly facing Notre-Dame on the Left Bank, and @double_g_interior_design designed the interior to match that setting without competing with it. ✨
The approach was deliberate restraint: restored cornices kept intact, stained oak floors, limestone tones, a mix of vintage furniture and contemporary silhouettes. Every choice earning its place. The light does the rest. Bouncing off mirrors, moving through the neutral walls across the day. 🔅
→ Save this if you’re working with a Haussmannian space and want to let the architecture lead.

That level of control is what makes the result so specific. Rich materials, sculptural forms, cinematic lighting but nothing feels decorative for its own sake. Every detail was considered as part of one complete vision, and you feel it in every room. ✨

This 300-year-old Belgian château redesigned by a This 300-year-old Belgian château redesigned by a French interior designer and architect, Nathan Litera @nathanlitera is a beautiful reminder that good design isn’t about replacing the past, but learning how to live with it. You see it in the preserved millwork, the original fireplaces, the parquet floors, and then in the quiet contrast of contemporary lighting, cleaner silhouettes, and restrained color.
The magic is in the balance. The newer pieces don’t compete with the architecture. They feel intentional, calm, and completely at ease. Nothing is overly styled. Nothing distracts. History stays front and center while the space still feels entirely livable today.
Here’s how to bring that same feeling into your own home:
* Keep your base timeless — neutral walls, classic materials, architectural details if you have them
* Let contrast do the work — modern lighting or furniture against traditional bones instantly updates a space
* Edit your palette — keep colors within a tight range and let texture and form do the talking
* Invest in materials — marble, wood, plaster. They age beautifully and never feel out of place
It’s not about recreating a château. It’s about understanding the feeling that quiet kind of luxury that doesn’t need to announce itself.
Save this for when you want your space to feel layered, timeless, and truly considered. ✨
