TILE FILE: BYE BYE RUGS, HELLO MOSAICS!

November 25, 2011

Living room in a Barcelona home with mosaic tile floor, white sofa and white molded walls and ceiling

A Barcelona home with a restored mosaic tile floor! Just lovely in my view. The classic mosaic designs mean there is no need for anything extra on these floors in this Spanish home…no rugs, carpets or anything else. The decor and furnishings in these rooms has to stay simple because of the detailed tiled floor. This works for me…a bit of pattern and then the rest kept uber simple. Yes!

This TILE FILE idea would require one thing for me…heated floors!

sun porch in Barecelona house with mosaic tile floor, white window seat, modern stainless lamp and glass and stainless side table
foyer in Barcelona home with mosaic tile floor, white walls with minimalist decorations and a white arched French doors

What do you think of these mosaic floors in this home in Spain? Love or don’t love?  Want to hear whether this works for you!

Happy day after Thanksgiving by the way…or as we say here in the U.S., Happy Black Friday (called Black Friday because on this day after Thanksgiving the hope is there is enough pre-Christmas shopping going on that it puts retailers “in the black” with profits being recorded instead of lossess…who knew…I didn’t…I had to look this up…)!

Happy Friday!

I never knew that (about Black Friday and profits versus loss)! Thanks for looking that up.

I love the look of mosaic tile on floors, also on shower walls with frameless glass enclosures. Ann Sacks has some gorgeous mosaics that I covet. I’m seriously thinking of doing something like that in my Master Bath if I ever get around to finishing it, but I’m with you — HAVE to have a heated floor!

the mosaic designs add so much character to a space, but they are also a huge long term commitment so you shouldn’t be following a trend so that you don’t get tired of it.
I love the way the hallway looks with the tile design.

What a beautiful home! I love the tile floors, especially since the home is in a hot climate.

I’ve always been in love with mosaic – especially if it’s a combo of mat, and shiny – This mosaic floor is no exception…. It’s Beautiful!

Yes, I do love the look and it is so practical for a warm and beachy area. I’d really miss the warmth and texture of a rug during the cold seasons here in the midwest.

The mosaics in this home are stunningly beautiful. I had a hard time wrapping my brain around the amount of work that went into these floors. A friend asked me to tile his laundry room using left over tile from several jobs. We broke up pieces that weren’t enough to do an actual pattern and made a mosaic. Turned out to be pretty cool. No where near the caliber of this tile job though. I would love to see the rest of the house.

I love those floors and have great admiration for the workmanship that went into them.

Martha's Vineyard house tour part 1. Here is a tou Martha's Vineyard house tour part 1. Here is a tour of the rental house we had in Edgartown on MV this summer. A new build about 5 minutes from the center of town. 3500 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 4 baths and a pool. House bad that beach house or coastal style decor. We were the first to rent it. What do you think? Would you rent thjs? Do you want to see the bedrooms?
It was our 2nd summer on the Vineyard. Next year, we are renting for the month. Same house. 💃🏾 I would love a bit bigger so more people could come but finding good rentals is hard on the Vineyard. Feel very lucky to have spent a magical few weeks in this spot.
