Interior Inspiration

Which Interior Design Style Are You in 2023

January 30, 2023
  • Share

The key to discovering your interior design style is by exposing yourself to different environments. It’s all about figuring out what you love and don’t love. Eventually helping you discover a unique personal style that will influence your home. Some popular 2023 interior design styles include minimalism, hygge, art decor, and mid-century.

The COCOCOZY team pulled some inspiration from each category to help see which one speaks to you the most. You can also draw inspiration from places you enjoy and feel at ease in, such as your favorite coffee shop or hotel room. As you experiment with different styles, pay attention to the elements that pique your interest, such as color, texture, patterns, and shape. You may discover that you enjoy a variety of styles, which is perfectly fine too!

Minimalism

Minimalism is all about getting rid of the unnecessary and keeping only what is necessary. It’s a design aesthetic that values simplicity, purity, and the beauty of negative space. Interior design minimalism is often described as a pared-down aesthetic that creates a sense of calm and serenity.

Hygge

Hygge (pronounced “hoo-gah”) is a Danish concept derived from an old Norwegian word that means “well-being.” It is an important part of Danish culture. After the word hygge appeared in Danish texts in the eighteenth century, the Danes began incorporating it into their lifestyles. The hygge decor style is cozy and focuses on creating an environment that promotes togetherness and comfort. Hygge design trends, characterized by soothing neutral colors and natural materials, are a trademark of the Danish way of life.

Art Deco

Art Deco originated in the 1920s and 1930s. It is distinguished by its use of bold geometric shapes, rich colors, and luxurious materials including velvet and furs. Art Deco is a highly decorative style that draws inspiration from Egyptian, Mayan, and Aztec art, as well as the work of the French Art Nouveau movement. The color palette is typically bold and dramatic, with a lot of black, gold, silver, and chrome accents. It is also common to use luxurious materials such as marble, mirror, and glass.

Mid-Century

The mid-century interior design style was popular in the 1950s and 1960s but has been rising in popularity since 2022. The style includes clean lines, simple shapes, and a focus on functionality. The color palette is typically neutral, with pops of bold colors used as accents and natural materials such as wood, leather, and stone. It is frequently associated with the rise of the middle class and the desire for more affordable, yet stylish living.

It started with an invitation. I met @hugobesnier_ It started with an invitation. I met @hugobesnier_ , founder and designer of luxury furniture brand @hartisparis_ at a small gathering in the 7ème, near the Musée d’Orsay. I was there with my new friends, Scarlette and Sarah.
The apartment itself was incredible! Tall ceilings, terrazzo floors, right along the Seine, but what really stood out was the furniture.
Turns out, it was Hugo's exquisite work.
The pieces are designed around everyday gestures: sitting, leaning, resting, but interpreted in a way that feels elevated and intentional. There’s a balance of structure and softness, where architectural lines meet more organic textures and forms.
He invited me back the next day to see everything more clearly, outside of the party setting, and it completely changed how I experienced it. The pieces feel intentional and refined, with a strong focus on material and form.
