The Kitchen – After
Along the sink wall, there’s a DIY backsplash that has been installed. The kitchen itself is the Riva model, which comes from the Danish kitchen company JKE. The kitchen’s exterior is finished with a matte, fingerprint-resistant “intelligent laminate,” which complements Nina’s stained plywood perfectly.
A practical display shelf sits atop the backsplash. Nina, who is a photographer and stylist in addition to being a design blogger (although she emphasizes that she is not a designer), had the wood cut to the appropriate size. According to Nina, the only necessary step was sanding the sharp edges. Instead of painting the wood, Nina opted to stain it, allowing the natural grain to be visible. For the staining process, she chose Lady Pure Nature 9044 Kullsort, a type of stain from Jotun of Norway. According to Nina, she applied the stain by rubbing it in with a cloth. With two layers, the wood appeared dark brown, while three layers resulted in a black color
In addition to staining the plywood, Nina also stained the edges of the boards. To protect and seal the wood, she used Osmo Top Oil, which is a wax sealant and water-repellent oil that provides a matte finish.
Oh that velvety black is so delicious! Beautiful renovation!

Totally agree, beautiful black kitchen!
That’s an amazing space. It really brings brightness in the room despite the dark cabinets and counter. Please come by the-wardrobe-stylist.com to check out some of our posts and follow us on Bloglovin 🙂
