Small Kitchen Remodel – Before & After

April 30, 2015

Love a good kitchen renovation. This kitchen remodel one comes from the home of Norwegian blogger Nina of Stylizimo. Nina took her traditional medium-toned wood kitchen and transformed it into a dramatic modern black and white statement room.

Before the remodel, the kitchen had red tile floors, wood paneled ceilings and was cloaked in wood from top to bottom. ย Nina changed the floors to a pale white-washed wood, revamped the cabinets to modern flat front style, stripped the wood off of the ceilings and created a bank of sleek wall cabinets on the left.

The result…a total transformation!

The Kitchen – After

Along the sink wall, there’s a DIY backsplash that has been installed. The kitchen itself is the Riva model, which comes from the Danish kitchen company JKE. The kitchen’s exterior is finished with a matte, fingerprint-resistant “intelligent laminate,” which complements Nina’s stained plywood perfectly.

A practical display shelf sits atop the backsplash. Nina, who is a photographer and stylist in addition to being a design blogger (although she emphasizes that she is not a designer), had the wood cut to the appropriate size. According to Nina, the only necessary step was sanding the sharp edges. Instead of painting the wood, Nina opted to stain it, allowing the natural grain to be visible. For the staining process, she chose Lady Pure Nature 9044 Kullsort, a type of stain from Jotun of Norway. According to Nina, she applied the stain by rubbing it in with a cloth. With two layers, the wood appeared dark brown, while three layers resulted in a black color

In addition to staining the plywood, Nina also stained the edges of the boards. To protect and seal the wood, she used Osmo Top Oil, which is a wax sealant and water-repellent oil that provides a matte finish.

Happy Thursday!

That’s an amazing space. It really brings brightness in the room despite the dark cabinets and counter. Please come by the-wardrobe-stylist.com to check out some of our posts and follow us on Bloglovin ๐Ÿ™‚
