Coastal Design Inspiration: Hamptons Poolside Cabana

June 6, 2023
  • Share

Everyone wants a dreamy backyard. So when I saw this poolside cabana at a Hamptons home I became inspired. The property is a private few-acre lot in Southampton, New York. Making it the perfect summer oasis for any family. Interior designer, Victoria Hagan teamed up with expert landscaper, Miranda Brooks, and Ferguson & Shamamian Architects. Together they designed a serene coastal getaway that features a dreamy pool house. Learn all about it on today’s blog.

What Is A Pool House?

A pool house provides a private space near the pool for extra storage and where guests can shower, change in and out of swimsuits, relax, and/or use the bathroom. If a poolhouse is big enough then it can have a lounge area with mini kitchens to entertain and enjoy cold beverages by the pool. Most pool houses are stocked with pool toys and supplies such as extra towels, umbrellas, pool floats, pool equipment, and cleaning supplies.

The owners of the home call their pool house the “entertaining barn.” The purpose was to create a fun and vibrant environment for entertaining friends and family. The walls are made of cypress wall paneling. It almost looks like white shiplap siding that most people use if they want a coastal vibe. However, in different lighting, the light wood coloring warms up the space. The fireplace is covered in Atlantic lava stone to complement the blue tones in the room. Instead of sticking with a nautical blue and white color scheme. Hagan decided to add pops of yellow and pink hues for a playful vibe. The painting is by Bill Tansey. The armchairs are from Lucca Antiques and then covered in a Katie Leede & Company fabric.

The Coastal Bathroom Design

A poolside cabana needs a bathroom. So this Hamptons oasis has a beautifully designed powder room for its guests. This photo of the bathroom gives a better view of the color of the cypress paneling. The bathroom features blue-and-white tile flooring. There are chrome finishes throughout the space. And there’s even a large basket outside of the bathroom filled with beach towels. A cute and decorative way to store towels.

The backyard is serene! The grand swimming pool is perfect for hosting summer parties. There is plenty of space for guests to lounge and mingle. The pool area is surrounded by hedges for maximum privacy.

Bonus Room: The Flower Room

This room isn’t a part of the poolhouse, but I thought it was a unique room idea for people who love to garden. The flower room was a concern for the owners since the wife enjoys arranging flowers from her garden. The room features Roman and Williams pendants and Thomas Hayes counter stools.

Did you know one Sunday a month, the Champs-ÉlyséeDid you know one Sunday a month, the Champs-Élysées closes to traffic entirely?
No cars. Just people, walking straight down the center with the Arc de Triomphe ahead. Then I walked home over The Seine. It had just rained, and the sky was doing something extraordinary. And of course, the Eiffel Tower showed up right on cue.
Paris on a quiet Sunday is something else. 🖤

This St Germain apartment, designed by Félix Millo This St Germain apartment, designed by Félix Millory @felixmillory , is defined by two things: a tightly controlled material palette and a sculptural art collection that runs through every room without exception.
Travertine frames every doorway. Dark smoked oak covers the joinery and cabinetry. Grey marble runs across the kitchen counters and island. Within that framework, figurative sculptures on the shelves, a large totemic piece at the entrance, stone forms on the dining table, a large-format artwork in the kitchen. Every room has at least one object that demands your attention. 🗿
→ Save this if you’re designing around a sculpture collection.
