COLOR WATCH: A BLUE LIBRARY!

March 4, 2011
  • Share

Library with blue walls, leather armchairs, a coffee table with inlaid wood details, a zebra print rug, a window seat and built in bookshelves full of books

Love the idea of a blue library. I want a library and why not have a blue one? Love the built-in window seat and bookshelves, the modern leather chairs, the zebra rug. Oh so darling. Some friends recently remodeled their house and set aside a small room for their library…it is a lovely little surprise…they call it a jewel.

Anyhoo…have a big busy weekend in front of me…have lots of orders for COCOCOZY pillows and throws to get out of the door…have to spruce up my place because am having some people over next week…lots to do and time is just flying!

Just heard from best of friend FF who lives in New Orleans…she is off to all things Mardi Gras this weekend. This is the first time in two years I’ve missed Mardi Gras. I miss it so…I miss my friends so much too! I’ve ridden in the Iris krewe for the last 2 years…one year we were lobsters (yes lobsters…we were dressed in red satin band uniform like outfits with a lobster beanie with claws on our heads…looking for a photo of the beanie now to share with you)…the next year we rode on the Iris float dressed in gold satin jumpsuits as kings (or queens…we really looked like we worked at a fast food restaurant)…this year they are pirates! Oh Mardi Gras. It is so fun to get swept in it all…I love riding on the floats and tossing beads, I love all of the parties, I just love it…next year!!!

Oh yes back to decor…if you had a library…or if you do…what color would you paint the walls or would you go with some classic wood paneling?

Happy Friday and HAPPY MARDI GRAS!

xo
Coco

P.S. Just found the photo of the outfit we wore to ride on our Mardi Gras float two years ago…I just found the hat part…that was from the year we dressed as lobsters…yes lobsters…I was a Mardi Gras lobster one year. Yup. Just imagine a group of very well heeled girls riding on a float wearing lobster outfits…and might I add totally loving it. Go to COCOCOZY Twitter to see how I roll at Mardi Gras! I’m now getting sad that I am not in New Orleans this weekend!

I have been loving this combination of a deep blue jewel paried with camel like in those chairs – very masculine and sexy! If/when I get my dream office/library I am thinking about an African colonial type look…maybe with a rug like that one!

Coco-I think that is GORGEOUS! I think Indigo is such an underused color. A library is the perfect place..it’s SO serene.

That’s a whole lot of blue. I like that room a great deal, but I think trying to do something like it might be tricky.

What a gorgeous library. The color is stunning. Something about dark libraries that just screams out old world style that I just love. Black walls are also my favorite especially with those camel brown chairs 🙂

I’ve seen a lot of blue popping up this year, especially in study/ library spaces. I’m doing a study in Austin, TX that I spec’d high gloss peacock blue a la Todd Romano.

ooh – sooo pretty! A fresh change to libraries that I typically see drenched in dark wood or in plain white.

This shade of blue looks great in this space. Probably, would not be bold enough to try it. Those of us near Mardi Gras are usually flying off snow skiing. Maybe next year you will be back to New Orleans. Les le bon temps roule!!!!

The blue library is a good alternative to the traditional dark brown (which I like). But mostly I wanted to say that ANY weekend is a good weekend to be in NOLA! Mardi Gras is just one of the many fun things about that town.

I posted a little while ago about Todd Romano’s New York digs! Isn’t it beautiful?
    His sitting/bedroom also gorgeous!
I would love to have such a cozy room, just dedicated to reading and perhaps writing!
I think those saturated blues are a coming new trend…
One of those ‘neutrals’ going with everything from yellow, pink, green, silver….to classic white!

Here’s what happens when I start playing with tablHere’s what happens when I start playing with tablescapes in my dining room. ✨
I love layering pieces I already have, mixing textures, adding a little greenery, and seeing how a few small details can completely change the feel of the table.
There’s no one right way to create a beautiful tablescape. For me, it’s about making it feel collected, welcoming, and ready for people to sit down, stay awhile, and make memories.
These are a few of the tablescapes I’ve created. Which one is your favorite?
Comment TABLE below and we’ll send you more tablescape ideas to inspire your next gathering.

Want a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and invitingWant a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and inviting? Start with these simple changes:
1. Layer your bedding. Mix sheets, a duvet, quilts, and throw blankets to create that plush, lived-in look.
2. Add warm lighting. Swap harsh overhead lighting for bedside lamps, sconces, or a statement light with a warm glow.
3. Bring in plenty of texture. Think linen, velvet, boucle, chunky knits, and soft rugs.
4. Keep the palette warm and calming. Soft neutrals, earthy tones, and muted colors instantly make a room feel more restful.
5. Mix in natural materials. Wood, rattan, woven accents, and stone add warmth and character.
6. Make the walls feel personal. Art, photographs, or even a statement headboard can make the room feel more finished.
7. Add something organic. A vase of branches, fresh flowers, or a little greenery can bring the room to life.
The goal isn’t to make your bedroom perfect. It’s to make it feel like a place you actually want to retreat to at the end of the day.
Save this for your next bedroom refresh. 🤎

Summer is when this courtyard really comes alive.Summer is when this courtyard really comes alive. 🌸
One thing I’ve learned is that every outdoor space needs a focal point. It gives your eye a place to land and makes the whole space feel more intentional.
In this courtyard, the bougainvillea naturally becomes that focal point, adding color, height, and movement without overwhelming the space.
If you’re designing your own patio or garden, start with one standout feature, then let everything else support it.
Save this tip for your next outdoor project. ✨

Design by @covetnoir. A 1750 Georgian home in Surr Design by @covetnoir. A 1750 Georgian home in Surrey, restored back to its former grandeur.
Grade II listed and stripped of most of its original character by previous owners, this 9,000 sqft home with seven bedrooms, and five bathrooms was brought back to life for a French-Swedish couple raising two young kids here. The brief: Parisian luxe with a Scandinavian twist, and a design calm enough to keep the grand proportions feeling intimate.
Covet Noir rebuilt what had been lost: full plasterwork, raised & fielded panels, a bespoke decorative ceiling, and added a cantilevered limestone staircase with Nero Marquina cabochon inlay in the entrance hall. The material palette leans into marble and alabaster, softened with boucle and brushed cottons, chosen to hold up to two kids and two dogs without losing the elegance. Antique furniture and architectural fittings were sourced throughout to keep the project sustainable, alongside ground source heating.
Grand bones, calm hand. This is the kind of restoration we could look at all day. 🤍
