FARMHOUSE FRESH

November 12, 2014
  • Share

Got an email from up and coming Connecticut based interior designer Calla McNamara the other day. Calla was writing to tell me she had completed her first project on her own – a 6 bedroom, 6 bath, 7,749 square foot farm house in Westport, CT.  Not bad for a first solo project!

Calla worked with Able Construction on the project.  Love the fresh white clean interior spaces with wonderful accents – the black painted bar interior with barn door, the marble tile on the wall in the kitchen and powder room, the small office nook, the floating shelves in the kitchen all work for me.

Calla shared some details with me on her finishes:

Kitchen
Polished Calcutta Gold Tiles On The Wall
Counter Tops – Glassos

Powder Room
Counter Top – Athens Gray Marble
Wall – Athens Gray Marble

Mudroom
Floor – 12″x 24″ Black Porcelain Tile
Counter Top – Limestone
Horizontal Boards

This home is currently on the market for $3.2 million dollars.   A perfect fresh stylish family home!

Thank you Calla!

Happy Wednesday!

P.S.  Am flying back from Chicago this morning.  Was there for work.  Had to be outside in freezing temperatures for 4 hours last night!  Oy vey.  I wonder if you nearly freeze whether you thaw out back to normal?  Will let you know.   Will be happy to be in warm Southern California.  Bye bye mid-west!

Stunning! I will definitely be on the lookout for more of her work! Is the backsplash in the kitchen marble tile?

Summer is when this courtyard really comes alive.Summer is when this courtyard really comes alive. 🌸
One thing I’ve learned is that every outdoor space needs a focal point. It gives your eye a place to land and makes the whole space feel more intentional.
In this courtyard, the bougainvillea naturally becomes that focal point, adding color, height, and movement without overwhelming the space.
If you’re designing your own patio or garden, start with one standout feature, then let everything else support it.
Save this tip for your next outdoor project. ✨

Design by @covetnoir. A 1750 Georgian home in Surr Design by @covetnoir. A 1750 Georgian home in Surrey, restored back to its former grandeur.
Grade II listed and stripped of most of its original character by previous owners, this 9,000 sqft home with seven bedrooms, and five bathrooms was brought back to life for a French-Swedish couple raising two young kids here. The brief: Parisian luxe with a Scandinavian twist, and a design calm enough to keep the grand proportions feeling intimate.
Covet Noir rebuilt what had been lost: full plasterwork, raised & fielded panels, a bespoke decorative ceiling, and added a cantilevered limestone staircase with Nero Marquina cabochon inlay in the entrance hall. The material palette leans into marble and alabaster, softened with boucle and brushed cottons, chosen to hold up to two kids and two dogs without losing the elegance. Antique furniture and architectural fittings were sourced throughout to keep the project sustainable, alongside ground source heating.
Grand bones, calm hand. This is the kind of restoration we could look at all day. 🤍

A — Warm wood beams and stone

A great vaulted ceiling doesn’t just add height. It changes how a room feels entirely. The best ones make you stop, look up, and never want to leave.
Save this for your next build or renovation inspo. 🖤

Before you start moving furniture, ask yourself thBefore you start moving furniture, ask yourself these three questions:
Does this improve the room’s function?
Does it create a better focal point?
Does it make the space easier to walk through?
If the answer is “no” to all three, maybe it’s just the rearranging itch talking. 😅
Save this for the next time you’re tempted to move every piece of furniture in your house.

A 90s home in Amman, Jordan, entirely remodelled by local artisans. Neo-Florentine bones, Levant-eclectic sensibility, arched passageways, and a flea-market-meets-commissioned-art collection that makes every wall feel intentional.
What makes it work: restraint where you’d expect excess, and boldness where you’d expect safety.
This is what happens when a home is built by people who actually know the place. 🖤
Save this, it’s a masterclass in culturally rooted design.
