I am obsessed with cantilever chairs. Love the look of these chairs that defy gravity. Famed architect and designer Ludwig Mies van der Rohe introduced the MR Chair series back in 1927 to much acclaim. Since then, manufacturers and designers from around the world have taken liberties to create their own versions.
The idea of the chair is that the seat suspends in air without a traditional base under it. In architecture, a cantilever is a beam that is fixed on one end that projects outward beyond its support.
I like these chairs because of the interesting physics and for their architecture.
TE and I have not gotten these for our dining room (yet)…we have some chairs we love that we’ll live with for awhile…but if we ever redecorate after the remodeling and decorating…I like the cantilever chair as an option. Hope TE is reading this!
Happy Tuesday!

P.S. Best of friend AM has been in the South of France this last week. Her and her hubby JE have been posting pictures of their dream vacation all over Facebook!!! They jetted to France for a friend’s birthday party. Oh what a harsh life! It looks wonderful. Had to share one of their photos as I have been ogling their gorgeous vacation views.
Love this post!! I would even mix cantelevers with some 18th c. neoclassical pieces. Have a super week. Mary
