Kitchen Design Tip: The Advantages of A Marble Backsplash

September 19, 2022
  • Share

Marble is one of the most popular materials in kitchen design. Due to its rich veins and smooth finish, marble exudes luxury on any surface. Interior designer, Amanda Barnett Design, optimized this kitchen area and transformed it into a dreamy sanctuary. Barnett matched the Dogal marble backsplash with the kitchen island for a cohesive appearance. Adding a marble backsplash is a go-to design technique to elevate an outdated kitchen.

The Benefits of Marble

Marble is a beautiful and versatile stone that can be styled and layered with other woods and materials. Marble is essential for a high-use space like a kitchen due to its durability and strength. For people who love to cook and entertain, investing in a strong stone like marble will help reduce the stress of nicks and surface scratches. It’s also an easy-to-clean surface which is why designers use the material for countertops and backsplashes.

History of Marble

According to Limstone.com, marble is a material used in architecture for thousands of years dating back to ancient Europe. The stone is a metamorphic rock formed from limestone which makes it the ideal material for sculptures because of its durability. Marble has been used on the exterior of buildings with columns for decoration and support. After the fall of the Greek Empire, the natural stone became popularized by the Romans.

Fun Fact: Did you know the veins and swirls in marble are caused by the cooling and heating of the stone?

A blank wall isn’t neutral, it’s a missed opportunity. The right piece doesn’t just fill space, it gives a whole room a reason to exist.

The spaces that get it right pair it with warm oak, aged brass, and something worn-in: an antique dresser, a vintage runner, a hand-thrown vase.

Heidi Caillier Design took this historic San Francisco home and layered floral wallpaper, striped drapery, checked linens, and antique textiles room after room without a single one feeling overdone. Marble mantels, gilt mirrors, brass fixtures, and warm wood floors do the quiet work of holding it all together.
This is what happens when “more” is chosen on purpose.
Save this for the masterclass in mixing prints. 🔖

A great bathroom isn’t just functional, it’s the one room in the house that’s entirely yours. The stone you choose, the way light hits the fixtures, the tub you actually want to sit in. These are the ones that get it exactly right.
Save this for your next bathroom renovation inspo and follow for more. 🖤
