KITCHEN WEEK: THE UPS AND DOWNS OF OPEN SHELVING!

May 7, 2011
  • Share
Sleek kitchen with dark wood floor, white counter tops, a dark wood island has open shelves holding books and other small objects, two white pendant lights and floating shelves on the back wall on both side of the hood

Day 6 of KITCHEN WEEK on COCOCOZY!

Today…open shelving in modern open kitchens. I like the use of open shelving in these two sleek kitchens…the shelves are more like cubbies and are used to store and display.

Functional and decorative at the same time. I am particularly loving the open nooks in the dark wood kitchen island above…perfect storage for cookbooks and more.

Sleek kitchen with white cabinets and drawers, a dark wood floor, stainless appliances and open shelves holding different kinds of bowls, books and other objects

Do you like open shelving or do you like to keep your goods hidden. In my small house in the Hollywood Hills it is a necessity to keep things hidden but if I had a bigger space…who knows? What do you think…let it all hang out in your kitchen…or keep it private…?

Happy Saturday!

I adore open shelving. In my new kitchen, I designed just one-third of the uppers along one wall to be open. My friends were horrified, but now they’re jealous. lol

I am planning on putting open shelving in my guest house. I think keeping things easy to find is a great way to say welcome to your guests.

I am a fan of letting it all hang out!! While I love pristine, beautiful kitchens, those aren’t for people who cook a lot. I cook a lot and am in the middle of redsigning my kitchen to function like a restaurant kitchen – everything out in the open for a busy cook! (My glass door fridge just came in yesterday too!!)

Oh and I love the island in pic #1 as well!!

Not me. I’ve had open shelving for four years and I’m tired of constantly dusting. I SO look forward to my new ikea cabinets with doors! Open looks groovy, but just not practical.

I have an old retro kitchen which had upper cabinets with glass doors. To open it up a little I pulled the glass out of two of them and I love it. They are dishes we use every day so they don’t have time to get dusty. But I did leave two others with glass doors so it doesn’t get too dusty!

I love the look of it in small doses, where things can be well organized so it doesn’t look too cluttered. In my dream kitchen I hope to have one accent wall with some open shelves for my prettiest things, and the rest closed for ease!

My kitchen designer would not let me do open shelving or glass front cabinets in the main area of the kitchen – she came to my house and saw that putting things behind closed doors seems to work better for me, and I agreed!

I LOVE the way it looks, but it is so not Los Angeles friendly.

I love open shelving in kitchens! I hope one day my life will be in order enough that I can do this in my own home… here is to hoping!

I had open shelving in my everyday kitchen in my last house I loved it BUT you can only have out what you use constantly and wash and put back …otherwise it could be a real mess…

Behind-the-scenes: Fun work trip to visit the COCOBehind-the-scenes: Fun work trip to visit the COCOCOZY bedding collection at the Welspun showroom in New York. Met with some buyers, had a fun time with the Welspun team, then capped off the weekend with a visit with friends. It is a long process to get bedding in stores across the country...showing the collections at textiles market is one of the first steps!
If you're interested in learning how I have gotten @cococozy products into stores around the country over the years including in major retailers...follow along...just one entrepreneur's journey. :)

Today is my birthday but...I don’t want to celeb Today is my birthday but...I don’t want to celebrate...I want to help.
I want to make a meaningful impact in our greater Los Angeles community suffering from the fires. I invite you to join me in transforming birthday wishes into support for one local organization on the ground in Pasadena/Altadena.
I have made a contribution today already to the LA Fire Relief Fund created by @victorybiblechurch in Pasadena. They are actively assisting families in need in both Pasadena and Altadena who have been affected by the devastating Eaton Fire.
Although I don't have a personal connection to Pastor DeCuir or the church, I was searching for an organization that is helping in the Altadena area. A well respected civil rights attorney I follow @leemerrittesq is on the ground helping the church members and community members with legal services in the wake of the fires. I hope by contributing to their efforts, we can extend a helping hand to those facing significant challenges during this difficult time
To donate, please visit their website at https://vbcpasadena.org/ (link in bio as well). Every contribution, no matter the size, brings hope and relief to those who need it most. Tell them you heard about them from me.
Your generosity to the Los Angeles community is the best birthday gift I could ask for.

Happy New Year! 🎉✨ As we step into this freshHappy New Year! 🎉✨ As we step into this fresh chapter, I’m reminded of the beauty of starting anew and I like recommitting to goals at the top of the year. Nothing set in stone but just an overall vision of what I'd like to do and who I would hope to help along the way.
This year, my mantra is: **dream big, act boldly, treasure the small joys, continue to lead with kindness and to have as much empathy as possible for others **. Just a few things...😂
I’m also deeply committed to helping people who follow along to achieve their dreams. I'll be curating captivating interior design inspiration with COCOCOZY that will hopefully give you ideas and dreams for your own space. I will also be empowering you to realize the value of your influence with Chirpyest by earning cash back for sharing and shopping. I hope to be open about the journey of the COCOCOZY product line. I want to share real time behind the scenes how the line is being built and how we are growing Chirpyest; both examples of the not so linear journey of building businesses from the ground up. I hope these stories spark you to push your own boundaries and shake out of your comfort zones.
Lastly, in 2025, I’m committed to surrounding myself with people who have a positive vibe about them while striving to be that same light for others. Luckily, I have a great start on this with an amazing family and fantastic group of friends - a fantastic support network.
My wish for you in 2025: May this year bring you clarity, courage, and the confidence to pursue all that makes you happy.
What’s one thing you’re committing to in 2025? Let’s inspire each other in the comments! 💬❤️
Let's get to this...am ready 2025!
