LONDON LOFTY!

September 27, 2010
  • Share

Dining room in a London loft with high ceilings, elevated windows, a glass second story log, wood floor, a floating bench under a bookshelf and a wood table surrounded by white chairs

Keeping it simple is the decor theme in this London loft apartment. All white pretty much with touches of color here and there…letting the architecture do the talking…high ceilings, elevated windows, a glass second story loft wall and even a spiral staircase.

No frills but it works. A lofty idea…keeping things simple. Hmmmm…

Kitchen in a London loft with white cabinets, floating shelves, silver counter top, a white island with glass top, white stairs to the second floor and a wall of plants

Home office in a London loft with glass floating shelves and a desk and a clear Philippe Starck chair

Bedroom in a London loft with a picture window, white bed with arched headboard and black and white pillows

My favorite picture is the small home office made from glass open shelving and a clear Philippe Starck chair…almost invisible. Good idea.

Happy happy Monday! Remember…keep things simple!

P.P.S. Got a cool new Blackberry which makes it easier for me to tweet…so now, on top of everything else, I have decided to start tweeting more too by the way…check out my most recent tweets regarding my choice of clothing to wear to work and a very weird and bizarre “design” find!!!!

I am really tempted to paint my living room stark white. Like an art gallery, but I’m a bit frightened too!

I am usually not a huge fan of modern spaces but this loft is very livable and less stark than others. The Starck chair is perfect.

The simplicity of the design and the abundance of white really makes the colors that are present really pop. I think it makes it look kind of fun. I would probably run into that clear chair 5 times a day though.

I love love love this post (and all things grey)! I’ve been reading your blog for a while – but this is my first comment. Where are those grey poufs from in the first shot?

    Thanks! Jayme.

Did you know one Sunday a month, the Champs-ÉlyséeDid you know one Sunday a month, the Champs-Élysées closes to traffic entirely?
No cars. Just people, walking straight down the center with the Arc de Triomphe ahead. Then I walked home over The Seine. It had just rained, and the sky was doing something extraordinary. And of course, the Eiffel Tower showed up right on cue.
Paris on a quiet Sunday is something else. 🖤

This St Germain apartment, designed by Félix Millo This St Germain apartment, designed by Félix Millory @felixmillory , is defined by two things: a tightly controlled material palette and a sculptural art collection that runs through every room without exception.
Travertine frames every doorway. Dark smoked oak covers the joinery and cabinetry. Grey marble runs across the kitchen counters and island. Within that framework, figurative sculptures on the shelves, a large totemic piece at the entrance, stone forms on the dining table, a large-format artwork in the kitchen. Every room has at least one object that demands your attention. 🗿
→ Save this if you’re designing around a sculpture collection.
