PRE-FALL FASHION PICKS

September 2, 2019
  • Share

It is that time of year. My absolute favorite fashion season: Pre-Fall. Pre-Fall style is the magical in-between of summer and fall. Even though it is Labor Day today and it feels like summer is over, we still have a few more weeks officially of summer. So it is time for Pre-Fall!! It’s all of the fun of fall fashion without worrying about the cold. Living in California I end up wearing pre-fall much longer than it’s intended to. I couldn’t wait to start browsing this year’s pre-fall collections. And, this season didn’t disappoint.

Every year I browse the pre-fall runway collections and either invest in a few designers or get inspiration to look for pieces. Since the invention of sites like Net-A-Porter and Moda Operandi, it’s much simpler to shop these collections and stay at a certain price point. I always freshen up my wardrobe with a few pieces. This season has just begun and I’m already tempted to buy a few of my picks. Here are some of the top items I have found!

NANUSHKA – Sharma Knotted Vegan Leather Midi Dress | TIBI – Patchwork Wrap Crepe Midi Dress | MAJE – Rachel Asymmetric Printed Devore-Satin Dress | ULLA JOHNSON – Indah Printed Cotton Maxi Dress | OSCAR DE LA RENTA – Belted Striped Cotton-Poplin Midi Dress | ULLA JOHNSON – Claribiel Cotton Dress

These Pre-Fall dresses are here to delight. I would love to own all of these incredible designs. The colors of this year seem to be navy, yellow/orange, light blue, and red. My love for midi dresses continues and I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon. This is a great assortment of colors, sleeve length, and shape. All of these dresses are perfect for casual wear, work, dinner, or a semi-formal event. These pieces would all pair perfectly with a flat, sneaker, or bootie.

JOSEPH – Embroidered Wool Sweater | 3.1 PHILLIP LIM – Striped Ribbed Stretch Wool-Blend Sweater | JOSEPH – Merino Wool Sweater

Light sweaters are my go-to for summer + fall nights. There is nothing cozier than slipping on a soft warm sweater! I have a handful of sweaters – but as they age it’s good to gradually replace them or invest in a fun style for the new season. I love the Joseph sweater for a unique twist on a white sweater. It’s very interesting while still being neutral. The 3.1 Phillip Lim is a fun combo of two hot colors this season: navy and light blue. The third option by Joseph is a great basic color and style. A good pick for someone looking to build a sweater collection.

GOLDSIGN – High-Rise Straight-Leg Jeans | MARA HOFFMAN – Dita Checked Cotton Straight-Leg Pants | VINCE – Belted Checked Brushed-Twill Wide-Leg Pants | VINCE – Brushed-Twill Wide-Leg Pants | MAJE – Poppy Piped Cotton-Boucle Pants | MANSUR GAVRIEL – Cropped Linen Straight-Leg Pants

The perfect season to pick out some new pants! I find that I have plenty of jeans but I’m lacking in the trousers department. Trousers just instantly upgrade an outfit to look a bit more put together while still being fun. I love this array of options. White/cream pants are perfect for the pre-fall season. It’s like holding onto summer for just a bit longer! Plaid pants seem to be a major trend this season and who could argue with these beautiful options? But, It’s also never too late to add some basic trouser colors to your closet. These beige and navy options are incredibly classic.

ST. AGNIKOA – Double-Breasted Linen-Blend Blazer | CITIZENS OF HUMANITY – Vivienne Cotton Twill Jacket | MUNTHE – Dietes Checked Woven Blazer

I love a good jacket. Perfect for saving you from AC or a cool day- these jackets will instantly upgrade your look. A blazer can be styled casually and look great over a dress or top + pants. Having a color like white or light blue lets the blazer be more casual than a dark color. If you are looking for a more casual option the Citizen of Humanity jacket is a great pick. Army green jackets never go out of style!

GANNI – Stretch Denim Top | MAX MARA – Austin Zebra Intarsia-Knit Mini Dress | LE 17 SEPTEMBRE – Wool Twill Shirt

These tops are ready to instantly upgrade your closet. The Ganni top is very in-style right now! A slightly cropped top and large shoulders look fantastic with jeans, trousers, or a skirt. The second top by Max Mara is technically a dress but this would look so cute thrown over some jeans for a more casual look. The third top by Le 17 Septembre is more formal and perfect to wear to the office.

BY FAR – Courtney Leather Mules | JIMMY CHOO – Erin Leather Slingback Flats | BALLY – Janese Buckle-Accented Leather Mules | GANNI – Distressed Leather Ankle Boots | ACNE STUDIOS – Jensen Leather Chelsea Boots | VEJA – V12 Leather Sneakers

I can’t hide the fact that I love shoes. Sandals, mules, flats, sneakers, heels, boots – you name it – I’m into it. Pre-Fall is the best season for a variety of footwear and lends itself for more outfit options. All of these picks would look incredible with the other items and with my current wardrobe. Everyone needs a classic flat shoe, a killer pair of booties you feel great in, and a pair of sneakers that add a dose of cool to any look. Veja sneakers have been exploding lately and won’t be dropping off anytime soon.

Can’t get enough fall fashion? Check out my post from last year for more fall inspiration!

Keep it simple. No need for bells and whistles an Keep it simple. No need for bells and whistles and fancy things to make your house a home. In this picture, a plant, two chairs I found at the flea market, a layered rug situation and some modern art...de-cluttered space can be equally as inviting as one filled with memories and treasures. If you are stuck with how to decorate, I say keep it simple. Purge and start with the basics. Full disclosure, this is a shot of my living room from a few years ago when I first moved in...I didn’t even have drapes up when this was taken. I have since added pieces and changed out furniture and added a 2nd sofa...but it started super simple and it was lovely back then. When the world is swirling around us and making no sense, how are you keeping things simple at home? #socococozy #bringstylehome #cococozy
Pre-pandemic throw back photo to where I was last Pre-pandemic throw back photo to where I was last year. Clueless as to what was to come. Was in Paris, with my mom, enjoying her summer apartment in the middle of the 6th arrondissement. I had just left the U.K. visiting friends for a few days in London and the Cotswolds. None of us knew that this summer 2020 would be so different. Today, I can only hope this time of tumult and great divides leads somehow to a future of calm and harmony. Going backwards in time is not an option. Pushing forward is. Happy Sunday to you. Where were you last summer? Where do you imagine you’ll be next? Xoxo #socococozy #bringstylehome
Incredible living room before and after as designe Incredible living room before and after as designed by my good friend Steve Jones @bettershelter! I went on a tour today. I also went on a tour a year ago when he first got the house. See my stories. Swipe to see what this room looked like before. Life lesson from a room transformation: When faced with the daunting and not so pretty, look to do the work, and you can make changes to bring out what is good. Right? This home by the way is going on the market soon and is in one of my favorite parts of town, View Park. What changes have you made lately that have turned bad into good? #socococozy #bringstylehome #remodeling #homerenovation #californiadreaming

Am in my living room right now looking at these pretty flowers in that white urn I found lying around. The urn works (see Flower Power highlights for backstory). Thinking on who I might send one of these bouquets to today as a little act of kindness. Still working on the patience piece of her advice! 🤪 Who might you send flowers to? How can you be more patient with yourself? Happy Saturday!
