Here’s a cute rocker chic apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Friend TL says that I’ve been doing too many New York roomscapes…he said “People do live other places you know…you need to get out of New York and show more…”. As most of you know, I don’t even live in New York. I was born and raised a Los Angeles girl and as I’ve mentioned a billion times, I now live in the smallest cottage in the world in the Hollywood Hills (I’m going to contact the Guiness Book of World Records to see if my “housette” may qualify for something…good idea? bad idea?).
Okay…focus…I do have a huge predilection towards New York City though. My best of friend Anne lives there with her family (nice hubby John and cute kiddies) and I used to live in the city on the Upper West Side…when the Upper West Side was tres cool (was the Upper West Side ever “tres cool”?…). This is all to explain to TL the connection between me and NYC.
Now this does not mean the rest of the country doesn’t exist. Please readers…send me images or ideas of amazing spaces in the rest of country…I would LOVE to see and post. So there TL…I am open to the rest of this wonderful country and seeing spaces everywhere.
But for now…here’s another NY apartment.
Bizarre aside…another non sequitur…on the phone with NYC Anne right now who was supposed to baby sit for her friend’s hamster Lolly – a NYC hamster. Anne just found out that she is relieved from her hamster sitting duties because Lolly the NYC hamster just passed away. Poor Lolly. Her friend is trying to figure out how she will tell her kids that Lolly has passed away…the possible solution to avoid difficult death conversation with kids…get Lolly 2 before they realize Lolly 1 has passed on… 🙂 This is not my idea…this is what was suggested to the now distraught former hamster owners by other friends. If Lolly 2 does replace the now deceased Lolly 1, Anne will still have hamster baby sitting duties btw…get ready for a hamster Anne! Meanwhile there is a whole email chain circulating among Anne’s friends about what to do with this “Lolly gate”…Anne, I’d like to point out is a mother of two and a busy investment banker…but this hamster dilemma is top priority in NYC right now! It is stories like these that make me love NY even more…!
Okay…so this apartment…geez I can’t seem to focus.
Found these cool images in Vogue from Diego Garcia’s (a musician of some sort) Upper East Side apartment that he shares with his wife Laura, a French bulldog and their little baby girl.
I like this eclectic mix. Something classically edgy…modern with hints of traditional and bohemian all in one. Loving the black dining room, all of the modern art, the Milo Baughman black chairs and the Karl Springer table and poufs in the living room and finally that lucite console table that serves as a desk.
Mid century classics make a nice vignette in the apartment’s black dining room…a Saarinen tulip table and Bertoia wire chairs are perfectly set in the compact eating space. (above) |
What do you think of this NYC apartment? What would be your ideal city apartment? Would you ever live in NYC?
Please send in those photos from around the country so I can break the NY/LA COCOCOZY cycle for TL. Please… ([email protected]).
Happy Monday!

Oh, this was such a lovely post, from rocker chic to hamster’s death, ha, don’t I have lived it all.
We used to do this replacement game with fish… and hamsters too!!! Not the rocker chic though, since the days in NYC were the days of our beginning in this country, having started with almost nothing and a shoe box apt. in mid town.
These places are gorgeous! Would move in there in a heart beat!
Oh, how I love the city! I share your bond and enthusiasm. The Upper East Side has aways chic, tres cool? Maybe not, but class!
I would love to live there again, pied -a – terre style, for I would never leave my house in the “country”.
I heart NY!
The hamster story was classic. When we lost Katy the hamster, I decided it was a good time to teach my 7-year-old about recycling, so we buried her in the Katy Memorial Moss Garden, a little strip of moss next to our house. After that we had Katy 2 and Katy 3, and they were all laid to rest there.
Hard to make a cemetery in NYC. Legally.
I love the city and miss it now that I live in a small NC town. When I’m too old to drive, maybe I’ll move back. Meanwhile, I will look for some local, charming small town pictures to help you regain your reputation as an impartial, well-traveled decor reporter.
I always love looking at New York apartments and dreaming about living there. I live in Los Angeles too and something about living in a New York apartment seems so fancy and fun to me! Thanks for sharing this one and LOVE that closet space.

I’m really loving those built-in style shelves with the chrome railing…do you know where to get those? They’re so stylish!
don’t mean to be buzzkill — but the wall art of Elizabeth Taylor is an odd choice. First — a woman in her slip holding a cocktail on the wall of a little girl’s room? Second- that’s from Butterfield 8 where she played a prostitute.
I love the Rocker look! And the apartment seems very spacious for NYC! There is always a place in my heart for the Big Apple!
Amazing apartment! As an ex NYC (ues) resident who really misses everything NYC, the more apartments from here the better…especially when they are this chic!
Hey, anonymous buzzkill! If you didn’t notice, the theme here is “Rocker Vogue”, and clearly the goal is to keep said theme consistent THROUGHOUT the house.
I love this post and my favourite part is the fact that Elizabeth Taylor is holding a cocktail, in a slip, while behaving like a whore in a childs room. Well done! 🙂
Cassy thank you for sharing this post. So inspirational!
Oh my gosh, I love this blog sooooo much! Everything about it is perfect! Thank you so much or the inspiration. I just started my own blog, and hope I can do half as well as you have!

Gorgeous!! Love the closet!!
Gorgeous! Thank you for sharing!
this is so cool, love the furniture, the colors, everything!

Love the vibe, could be a cool pad anywhere (even L.A. or Miami), lots to think about…
Regarding the hamster epic-saga, perhaps your friends should change gears and look into guinea pigs. They’re hardier, friendlier, and they last a lot longer than their nocturnal cousins. Also, they love to have their own homes, which can be decorated on a pretty modest budget. Hmm, guinea pig art, anyone?
I’m going to have to agree that the Elizabeth Taylor holding a cocktail image does not belong in a little girl’s room. Could they not find another image of Elizabeth Taylor that was a little more appropriate? Everything else I love!
