SEE THIS HOUSE: WHITE OUT WITH CHARACTER!

May 12, 2011
  • Share
White living room with gingham covered armchair, black floor lamp, black and white piped floor cushions, round black table, a light blue bench under a window and a white table with white eames chairs

Adore these photos from the portfolio of Norway interior designer Annette Ekjord. A small house in Sweden I assume…that is all white.

All white doesn’t have to mean bland as you see here. Lots of character in all of the details. Love the vichy (gingham) covered arm chair in the living room and the black floor lamp – both add a some needed contrast in this white space.  Also, notice the white and black piped floor cushions stacked on the shelf in the living room…good idea for extra casual seating in a small space. I also like the wall of framed pictures in the small dining room – this collection of black framed art adds great texture to the wall I think.

Alternative view of the living room with a view of the white sofa, white nested side tables and art on the walls in black frames
On the left there is a white dining room with a white table, eames chair and bench style seating, on the walls are 12 photographs in black frames arranged in a rectangle, in the corner there is a red donkey. On the right there is a black bin on a white counter in front of a white tile wall with herbs, bottles and other items
On the left is a close up of a table holding glass bottles and white candles in white candlesticks and a small plant in a white pot, on the right is a close up of a white built in shelf stuffed full of brightly colored books
On the left is a white bedroom with a wood floor, white bed skirt and a pendant light. On the right is an entry way with coat hangers, a blue chair and a brown baby carriage

What do you think of this little nest. Just right or too much white? Please do tell.

Going to the dentist this morning! Late already. Party tonight at the beach…must muster up energy to attend!  Tired already.  Need to motivate…help!

Happy Thursday!

Hi Coco, I love this adorable place. It is very Ikea done right. I love the cod hide swivel stool (which I have and plan to put in my daughters room) and the cow hide rug.

It probably is a little too much white for me BUT having said that I am amazed at how much texture and warmth is added to the room with all her accessories and it certainly isn’t bland! Nicolex

I think it’s amazing. Whites can be so hard to do right. I’m revealing my new white kitchen tomorrow, and am so hoping I did it right!

I think you can’t go wrong with whites — even a mix of different whites. For people who like to change things around and accessorize, it’s great, because you have a simple background to play with. These photos are so refreshing. Thanks.

An easy fall tablescape you can actually recreate. An easy fall tablescape you can actually recreate. 🍂
You don’t need a perfectly styled table or a dozen new pieces to make a fall gathering feel special. Start with what you already have and layer in a few simple details.
Think woven placemats + simple white plates + gingham napkins + fresh greenery. Add clear glassware and a simple centerpiece, and you have a table that feels warm, collected, and ready for dinner with friends.
The best part? Most of these elements can work beyond fall, too. Just switch out the napkin pattern or greenery and you have a completely different look.
Save this for your next fall gathering and use it as a starting point for your own table. 🤎
