SMART DESIGN: PLAID KITCHEN!

October 16, 2012

small modern eat in kitchen with plaid walls, louis ghost chairs, round wooden table, stools and a chalkboard

Here’s a cute idea. A small kitchen with plaid walls! Hmmmm…would have never thought of it but it works here. A cute small eat in kitchen in a Swedish apartment with a white subway tile backsplash, modern stainless hood, white cabinets and plaid wallpaper on all of the other walls. The plaid works here. Not too overwhelming. Just right. Adds a bit of whimsy and visual interest to what could end up being just a regular small space.

Amazing too that they were able to fit a little round table with some clear Louis Ghost chairs into the design mix.  I like.

Smart design I think. I’ve added a few wallpaper patterns below that could also look good in this type of space.

Do you like this idea of plaid on the walls in a kitchen?  Is a SMART DESIGN or not so smart all?  Is this something you would consider for your home?  Why or why not?  Please weigh in below.  I LOVE reading your comments.

Happy Tuesday!

P.S. Just got an update today about a project we’ve been trying to move along with a major brand.  Will keep fingers crossed that it works out and that I can tell you about it soon.

P.P.S.  Also, just heard from another big company who might want to use COCOCOZY throws for their corporate Christmas gifts.  Fingers crossed that it works out!  Will of course blab the details should it come to fruition.

P.P.P.S.  Still no resolution on my floor issue (you know the wood floors that are damaged due to a pipe exploding)…can’t seem to get the floor guy to come out and give me an estimate.  Arrrggghhhhhh….!

P.P.P.P.S. Thanks to all of you for your pictures of your pumpkins and for the great ideas you emailed me.  My neighbor has tricked out her house for Halloween already…I’m going to have to try to keep up by carving my one and only pumpkin!

P.P.P.P.P.S. Had a nice dinner last night with JLF.  So good to catch up after so long.

Love plaid rugs. Think this wallpaper is a bit too 70’s for this 70’s child.

I don’t like plaid wallpapers that much but now that I saw your kitchen design I am thinking of doing it too. Kitchen renovations in Perth wa is popular because they are good at making a dull room look cool. I’ll ask my cousin if he can do this to my wall but using paint and not a wallpaper.

Do you have the design name/company name for this wallpaper please – have been looking for one exactly like this for a long time. Thank you.

The design looks perfect with those kitchen cabinets. I just don’t like the color because it looks dull.

Keep it simple. No need for bells and whistles an Keep it simple. No need for bells and whistles and fancy things to make your house a home. In this picture, a plant, two chairs I found at the flea market, a layered rug situation and some modern art...de-cluttered space can be equally as inviting as one filled with memories and treasures. If you are stuck with how to decorate, I say keep it simple. Purge and start with the basics. Full disclosure, this is a shot of my living room from a few years ago when I first moved in...I didn’t even have drapes up when this was taken. I have since added pieces and changed out furniture and added a 2nd sofa...but it started super simple and it was lovely back then. When the world is swirling around us and making no sense, how are you keeping things simple at home? #socococozy #bringstylehome #cococozy
Pre-pandemic throw back photo to where I was last Pre-pandemic throw back photo to where I was last year. Clueless as to what was to come. Was in Paris, with my mom, enjoying her summer apartment in the middle of the 6th arrondissement. I had just left the U.K. visiting friends for a few days in London and the Cotswolds. None of us knew that this summer 2020 would be so different. Today, I can only hope this time of tumult and great divides leads somehow to a future of calm and harmony. Going backwards in time is not an option. Pushing forward is. Happy Sunday to you. Where were you last summer? Where do you imagine you’ll be next? Xoxo #socococozy #bringstylehome
Incredible living room before and after as designe Incredible living room before and after as designed by my good friend Steve Jones @bettershelter! I went on a tour today. I also went on a tour a year ago when he first got the house. See my stories. Swipe to see what this room looked like before. Life lesson from a room transformation: When faced with the daunting and not so pretty, look to do the work, and you can make changes to bring out what is good. Right? This home by the way is going on the market soon and is in one of my favorite parts of town, View Park. What changes have you made lately that have turned bad into good? #socococozy #bringstylehome #remodeling #homerenovation #californiadreaming

Am in my living room right now looking at these pretty flowers in that white urn I found lying around. The urn works (see Flower Power highlights for backstory). Thinking on who I might send one of these bouquets to today as a little act of kindness. Still working on the patience piece of her advice! 🤪 Who might you send flowers to? How can you be more patient with yourself? Happy Saturday!
