SEE THIS HOUSE: Book-Filled Grecian Vacation Home

June 14, 2023
  • Share

Let’s take a look inside legendary writer Patrick Leigh Fermor and his wife Joan’s Grecian home. The stunning stone house is located atop Mount Taygetus, overlooking the serene Messenian Gulf. Surrounded by ancient olive and cypress trees, the house sits between two bays for one of the most stunning views from every angle. This home was a peaceful place to get away and write for the accomplished couple.

Tucked away a few hours from Athens, the Kardamyli house embodies a blend of rustic and Tuscan. While the home is on the smaller side, the way it is furnished combined with the many windows, makes it feel open and spacious. Follow along below to take a closer look at the details of this Grecian home.

The Grecian Home Interior

Filled with warm-wood furniture and natural light, I see how this house was the perfect serene place to write and relax. No need to go crazy with decor as their book collection is perfect for reading and to add to the overall ambiance.

A fun fact about this dining table is that Patrick Leigh Fermor designed it himself!

The Exterior

The home’s exterior is subtle yet stunning, the porticos are a classic European feature surrounded by plush greenery. The garden and terrace are the cherry on top of an already breathtaking view.

Leigh Fermor was not only an author but a stonecutter as well, creating ancient sculpture fragments for this outdoor patio overlooking the sea.

A thoughtfully styled tablescape can:
• Make guests feel instantly welcome.
• Encourage people to linger a little longer.
• Turn an ordinary meal into a memorable experience.
• Reflect your personal style without saying a word.
The best part? It doesn’t have to be elaborate. A few layers, fresh flowers, candlelight, or beautiful dinnerware can completely change the atmosphere. 💐
Because the most memorable gatherings aren’t always the fanciest. They’re the ones where everyone feels at home.
What’s one detail you always include when setting your table?

A great vaulted ceiling doesn’t just add height. It changes how a room feels entirely. The best ones make you stop, look up, and never want to leave.
Save this for your next build or renovation inspo. 🖤

Before you start moving furniture, ask yourself thBefore you start moving furniture, ask yourself these three questions:
Does this improve the room’s function?
Does it create a better focal point?
Does it make the space easier to walk through?
If the answer is “no” to all three, maybe it’s just the rearranging itch talking. 😅
Save this for the next time you’re tempted to move every piece of furniture in your house.

A 90s home in Amman, Jordan, entirely remodelled by local artisans. Neo-Florentine bones, Levant-eclectic sensibility, arched passageways, and a flea-market-meets-commissioned-art collection that makes every wall feel intentional.
What makes it work: restraint where you’d expect excess, and boldness where you’d expect safety.
This is what happens when a home is built by people who actually know the place. 🖤
Save this, it’s a masterclass in culturally rooted design.

A — The kitchen

Black is not a bold choice. It’s a neutral, and one of the most versatile ones in design.
The rooms that get it right treat black the same way others treat white or greige: as a foundation that lets everything else breathe. The texture of the wall. The warmth of the wood. The drama of the marble. Black doesn’t compete, it amplifies.
Save this the next time someone talks you out of going dark. 🖤
