IKEA KITCHEN WITH HIGH-END UPGRADES

March 15, 2008

So, there’s this guy I know, he just bought a new house and happened to mention IN PASSING to me and my good friend RB that he might need new kitchen counters.

Little did he know that once he mentioned his “project”…I zeroed in.

I immediately offered to help. He seemed circumspect…he still seems circumspect…he shouldn’t be…I know I can help him change his kitchen’s look for the better.

——————————————
Update…

So…it is not working. I ran into the guy the other day and told him I could help him again with his kitchen counter re-do…he responded sarcastically “Like, right, so I’m going to be your guinea pig? Not…”

New thought…do not bring up kitchen counters with the guy again…he will get so desperate in 6 months that he will be begging me to come help him…by then, I will be so swamped witlh my regular job (which I love because it is all about doing deals)…I will have to seriously consider whether “I can make the time.”….

Pipe dreams???

For proof that I can do a kitchen…here’s my tiny tiny tiny kitchen in the smallest tiniest house in the U.S.

MY SMALL KITCHEN – BEFORE REMODEL

AFTER DETAILS/PRODUCTS:

  • Countertops – Ceasarstone countertops. ($1800 for this small space…still have part of a slab left over to use elsewhere if anyone needs it)
  • Cabinets – IKEA tempered glass base cabinets (Ikea Rubrik White cabinets – Rubrik doors – white), frosted glass upper cabinets (Ikea Avsikt upper kitchen cabinet doors).
  • Backsplash – Porcelanosa tile backsplash – LOVE THESE TILES–huge glass covered porcelain wall tiles (12.5″x 39″) because of the almost imperceptible small lined detail and I love how glossy and shiny they are…almost look like glass.
  • Sink – Kohler stainless undermount sink. For more Kohler undermount sinks… ($500+ not including installation)
  • Faucet – KWC Domo faucet – stainless ($550+ not including plumbing…chrome version is much less)
  • Appliances – Frigidaire (approx. $2500)…wish I could have done higher end appliances but unfortunately all of the “professional” grade brands do not come in sizes small enough (my fridge is just 28″ wide)

Will keep you posted …although outlook is gloomy now!!!

Hi, I just came across this blog post while looking for images of Ikea’s Rubrik White cabinets. Your kitchen looks awesome! One question — did you install any side panels on your rubrik base cabinets? If so, which ones? Looking on the Ikea website, it seems that the Rubrik side panels only come in stainless steel…

    thanks!

I used the shiny white side panels. I can’t remember what those are called…but they to with the shiny white cabinet door fronts. It looks good. I do not have any exposed sides really…just a little here and there.

    Hope this helps!

Hi, can you tell me if you’ve had any problems situating the stove right beside the fridge? I have a similarly small kitchen and I’m wondering what the cons are of putting the two appliances so close together (effects of heat on side of fridge, for example).

    Thanks!
