Traditional Bedroom – Toile + Ticking Stripe

Toile Ticking Stripe Traditional Bedroom

Today I bring you a cute very very traditional bedroom that I photographed last month.  Not quite my style but I do think it is very pretty.

A few weeks ago I visited New Orleans for the inaugural Southern Style Now Festival where I was privileged to speak on a blogger panel about the importance and influence of Southern Interior Design…it was amazing!! If you didn’t see my recap of the weekend be sure to check it out here…anyhoooooooo…I am still processing the overload of inspiration I was able to soak up! Over the next few days I’ll be sharing my favorite bedrooms from the show house along with ways to incorporate elements from these rooms into your own home and I want to hear from you which rooms are your favorites!

Today, it is this traditional bedroom with the toile ticking stripe combination that I just cannot get over. Designed by Ware Porter. It was even more regal in person let me tell you. The way they paired the ticking stripe with the toile wasn’t too overdone…understated elegance is what I like to call it 😉 The toile bed crown was my favorite piece..it really takes the bedroom to a whole new level!

P.S.  Had a fun dinner last night at Soho House with AB.  Haven’t seen him in awhile so it was fun to catch up.  We spent 5 hours chatting about everything under the sun!  Fun night.

I’m generally not a toile kind of person but I actually love the room. It’s definitely understated elegance. I’m glad they kept the walls simple (i.e. no wallpaper) to keep it a little more fresh and modern, particularly with the rug.

By the way, have you been to the new Soho House in Malibu? I did a post about it not too long ago.

Hi Coco. Thank you so much for the kind words about our room at the Traditional Home/Southern Style Now Show House. The room is a nod to the old gaurd and grand dames of New Orleans. We enjoyed creating it.

    Regards,
    Ware Porter

Designer Emma Donnersberg took her own Paris apartment in the 7th arrondissement and used it to rewrite the rules — classical bones, contemporary everything else. Her Wave Sofa and U&Me Table anchor the living room in organic curves. In the kitchen, a green ceramic-wrapped island does the heavy lifting for color against all that neutral stone. And the dining room? A Carrara travertine fireplace that turns stone into the whole point of the room.
Curved, curated, and completely hers. 🤍

A little peek at one of my favorite outdoor spaces, which I designed years ago. The patterned tile, navy seating, white stucco, and layers of greenery make this balcony feel like a little room all its own.
I love how much personality you can create in a small outdoor space without making it feel overcrowded.

Want a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and invitingWant a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and inviting? Start with these simple changes:
1. Layer your bedding. Mix sheets, a duvet, quilts, and throw blankets to create that plush, lived-in look.
2. Add warm lighting. Swap harsh overhead lighting for bedside lamps, sconces, or a statement light with a warm glow.
3. Bring in plenty of texture. Think linen, velvet, boucle, chunky knits, and soft rugs.
4. Keep the palette warm and calming. Soft neutrals, earthy tones, and muted colors instantly make a room feel more restful.
5. Mix in natural materials. Wood, rattan, woven accents, and stone add warmth and character.
6. Make the walls feel personal. Art, photographs, or even a statement headboard can make the room feel more finished.
7. Add something organic. A vase of branches, fresh flowers, or a little greenery can bring the room to life.
The goal isn’t to make your bedroom perfect. It’s to make it feel like a place you actually want to retreat to at the end of the day.
Save this for your next bedroom refresh. 🤎

The right chandelier doesn’t just light a room, it becomes the room. Scale, material, placement. When it’s done right, everything else arranges itself around it.

Summer is when this courtyard really comes alive.Summer is when this courtyard really comes alive. 🌸
One thing I’ve learned is that every outdoor space needs a focal point. It gives your eye a place to land and makes the whole space feel more intentional.
In this courtyard, the bougainvillea naturally becomes that focal point, adding color, height, and movement without overwhelming the space.
If you’re designing your own patio or garden, start with one standout feature, then let everything else support it.
Save this tip for your next outdoor project. ✨
