Los Angeles Farmhouse with a Twist

May 26, 2021
  • Share

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s modern farmhouse is luxurious and fully sustainable.Their six-acres estate sits on top of a hill in Los Angeles. Their home took over five years to build. The estate includes the main house, barn, and a fun BBQ pavilion. They made it a priority to design a sustainable farmhouse for their family.

How is it Sustainable?

The structure is fully powered by photovoltaics. Photovoltaics are solar cells that convert sunlight into electricity for a home or building. Ashton and Mila’s photovoltaic system is hidden above their porch that stretches along one side of their home. The house produces more power than the property actually requires. Mila and Ashton live a sustainable lifestyle. They grow their own foods and enjoy regenerative farming. During quarantine, they started growing corn. In fact, they grew so much corn that they were handing it out to their neighbors for free just to get rid of it.

The Origin of the Farmhouse

Is anyone else in love with modern farmhouses? Farmhouse architecture originated in Europe. They were simple structures built on farm lands. Farmhouses were made of wood because it saved the homeowner time and money. Today, the contemporary farmhouse look has become very popular. The trend took off after people were introduced to the style on HGTV’s “Fixer Upper.” Now celebrities like Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are taking the trend to a whole new level.

Want a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and invitingWant a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and inviting? Start with these simple changes:
1. Layer your bedding. Mix sheets, a duvet, quilts, and throw blankets to create that plush, lived-in look.
2. Add warm lighting. Swap harsh overhead lighting for bedside lamps, sconces, or a statement light with a warm glow.
3. Bring in plenty of texture. Think linen, velvet, boucle, chunky knits, and soft rugs.
4. Keep the palette warm and calming. Soft neutrals, earthy tones, and muted colors instantly make a room feel more restful.
5. Mix in natural materials. Wood, rattan, woven accents, and stone add warmth and character.
6. Make the walls feel personal. Art, photographs, or even a statement headboard can make the room feel more finished.
7. Add something organic. A vase of branches, fresh flowers, or a little greenery can bring the room to life.
The goal isn’t to make your bedroom perfect. It’s to make it feel like a place you actually want to retreat to at the end of the day.
Save this for your next bedroom refresh. 🤎

The right chandelier doesn’t just light a room, it becomes the room. Scale, material, placement. When it’s done right, everything else arranges itself around it.

Summer is when this courtyard really comes alive.Summer is when this courtyard really comes alive. 🌸
One thing I’ve learned is that every outdoor space needs a focal point. It gives your eye a place to land and makes the whole space feel more intentional.
In this courtyard, the bougainvillea naturally becomes that focal point, adding color, height, and movement without overwhelming the space.
If you’re designing your own patio or garden, start with one standout feature, then let everything else support it.
Save this tip for your next outdoor project. ✨

It’s easy to believe you’re falling behind when liIt’s easy to believe you’re falling behind when life looks different than you imagined.
But not every season is meant to be productive. Some are meant to restore you. Some are meant to reshape you. And some are quietly preparing you for what’s next.
Trust the timing of your own journey.
One day, you’ll look back and realize that even the slowest seasons were moving you forward. 🤍
