Sag Harbor Home Tour – Steven Gambrel Designed

June 16, 2015

From modern to cozy… Today, I bring you another house tour. This home is in the beach town village of Sag Harbor in the Hamptons. Decorated by noted interior designer Steven Gambrel, this home oozes classic quaint.  The cottage kitchen includes two-toned light blue cabinets that set the tone for this home.  Complete with wide plank floors and a cozy dining table surrounded by classic Wegner Wishbone Chairs, this small kitchen is the heart of the house.  I think a kitchen should be the heart of the home.

This home is filled with classic touches such as wing-back chairs, grass-cloth-covered walls, tufted sofas, timeless tables, and pieces of furniture and styles that will not go out of fashion.  Perfected coziness, to say the least.

About the designer

Steven Gambrel is an influential interior designer from New York who owns the design firm S.R. Gambrel. They specialize in residential and commercial projects as well as custom furnishings. Gambrel made a name for himself in the interior design world by partaking in international projects that went on to be featured in massive publications such as Architectural Digest, the New York Times, and Elle Decor. He did interior design and architectural projects all over the globe in cities like Manhattan, Zurich, and Hong Kong. Steven Gambrel’s mission is to “Create an environment that feels synonymous with the architectural vernacular and the spirit of the client’s lifestyle.” After all, there’s a reason why he was featured in the 2023 AD100.

The location of this home is great for beach lovers. There are a wide variety of restaurants and shops nearby as well as farm stands. Houses in Sag Harbor is the ultimate cottage-core vibe.

The wood and nature theme in this backyard is very Sag Harbor. Every element here was designed and placed thoughtfully to bring the space together.

Since many Sag Harbor houses are by the waterfront with stunning views, the style of this room is very fitting. The timeless furniture pieces here are also a great touch.

Want a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and invitingWant a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and inviting? Start with these simple changes:
1. Layer your bedding. Mix sheets, a duvet, quilts, and throw blankets to create that plush, lived-in look.
2. Add warm lighting. Swap harsh overhead lighting for bedside lamps, sconces, or a statement light with a warm glow.
3. Bring in plenty of texture. Think linen, velvet, boucle, chunky knits, and soft rugs.
4. Keep the palette warm and calming. Soft neutrals, earthy tones, and muted colors instantly make a room feel more restful.
5. Mix in natural materials. Wood, rattan, woven accents, and stone add warmth and character.
6. Make the walls feel personal. Art, photographs, or even a statement headboard can make the room feel more finished.
7. Add something organic. A vase of branches, fresh flowers, or a little greenery can bring the room to life.
The goal isn’t to make your bedroom perfect. It’s to make it feel like a place you actually want to retreat to at the end of the day.
Save this for your next bedroom refresh. 🤎

The right chandelier doesn’t just light a room, it becomes the room. Scale, material, placement. When it’s done right, everything else arranges itself around it.

Summer is when this courtyard really comes alive.Summer is when this courtyard really comes alive. 🌸
One thing I’ve learned is that every outdoor space needs a focal point. It gives your eye a place to land and makes the whole space feel more intentional.
In this courtyard, the bougainvillea naturally becomes that focal point, adding color, height, and movement without overwhelming the space.
If you’re designing your own patio or garden, start with one standout feature, then let everything else support it.
Save this tip for your next outdoor project. ✨

It’s easy to believe you’re falling behind when liIt’s easy to believe you’re falling behind when life looks different than you imagined.
But not every season is meant to be productive. Some are meant to restore you. Some are meant to reshape you. And some are quietly preparing you for what’s next.
Trust the timing of your own journey.
One day, you’ll look back and realize that even the slowest seasons were moving you forward. 🤍
