TREND WATCH: CHECK IT OUT!

March 29, 2012

Living room with gingham curtains, white dueling armchairs, a rustic coffee table and chandelier

Check, vichy, some even say gingham…whatever you might call this pattern…I like.  A nice check on the fashion front does it for me every time.  I own quite a few checkered blouses and whenever I see a guy wearing a check shirt or tie…I must comment.  I love to see people wearing a delicate check!  Can’t get enough of this pattern.  Lately, in home decor, I have been coming across vichy (the French call it vichy) quite a bit too and I am liking!

Yesterday, I was on the website of one of our new COCOCOZY home furnishings collection retailers based in Maryland, The Kellogg Collection (they bought quite a few lovely COCOCOZY pillows from us at market in early February), and I noticed they sell a ton of checkered print pillows.  I’ve also noticed quite a few check patterned home furnishing accessories in my travels out and about.

You might associate this pattern with a country styled home but it can be quite modern too.  I think it is timeless and can blend with most any style of design.

I love a crisp check.  What do you think? Take a look!

Dine in kitchen with hanging pot rack, white cabinets, a wood island with slab counter top, and a long wood table with gingham seat covers
Bedroom with wire frame bed, gingham accent pillow, a small mirror above the metal headboard and a star pendant light
Living room with exposed beams, a white fireplace with a polished round mirror on the mantel, french doors and gingham accent pillows
Dining room with gingham upholstered Louis XIV chairs, a wood table, floral arrangement and crystal and brass chandelier
gingham napkins as part of an outdoor patio dining set
Master bedroom with canopy bed, flower printed carpet, and a purple and white gingham nightstand, ottoman and chair.
sitting area with black and white gingham walls, a wood floor and a red and white striped upholstered armchair with nail head details and decorative vintage bowling pins

What do you think? Do you like the idea of using checkered fabric on walls, upholstered furniture, flooring or more? Or, would you rather just stick to solids? Please do tell.

Happy Thursday!

I love the use of checkered fabrics, especially for a drape or pillow. Awesome.

This pattern is actually referred to as a “buffalo check”.

I think I would use the pattern for pillows or a nice cozy throw..but not on the walls or windows….

There are two patterns I have always love in my home and in my closet and that is stripes and checks. So fresh and crisp. love the freshness they bring to a room, Kathysue

Solids and stripes for me! Not a huge fan of checks, although I did just buy a turquoise checked blouse…
    Have a great weekend.

I find that a checkered pattern can really bring more interest to a room. Especially one which is comprised mostly of solids. Although, it must be used in moderation of course. You don’t want to drape the entire room in the pattern because it could be too overwhelming.

Checks and cottage decorating were made for each other. But I love the use in the first picture, it complements the modern kitchen wonderfully.
