COCOCOZY Design House: Selecting Tiles From Cement Tile Shop

July 2, 2018
  • Share

Decisions, decisions! As you know, we have been hard at work on the COCOCOZY Design House. Today, it’s all about two main exterior hardscape surfaces — the front walkway and back balcony.

Curb appeal is everything when designing a house… especially one that is going on sale! Sometimes a book is judged by its cover. Lucky for me, the facade of this house is already so amazing — my main goal is not to mess it up!  The Cement Tile Shop has come on as a partner to help me in that effort.

The photo (above) is what I’m using as my main inspiration for this part of the project. Now, before I go any further, I just want to note that this house is a work in progress. Please read using your imagination for what the space will look like. And don’t worry, I will show you all the final result as soon as I can!

My tile pick: the Bordeaux IV pattern shown here in Pacific Black, Pacific White, and Sand.

If you’re just tuning in, I’m working with an awesome team to renovate a Spanish style house in the center of Los Angeles, in the historic View Park neighborhood. It is 1860 square feet oasis and was built in 1930. It sits on a large, magical lot surrounded by palm trees and birds of paradise. It was 3 bedrooms and 3 baths — but now we are morphing it into a 4 bedroom and 3.5 bath home!

For the front walkway leading into the home and the back balcony, I chose tile from the Cement Tile Shop’s instock selection due to the tight timeline.

I ultimately selected the Bordeaux IV pattern — which I liked because it is classic but has good contrasts with the white, black and off white color scheme. The stucco will be painted white, trim will be a soft black.

Stripped and ready for fresh tile!

The front walkway — before! It was a dated porcelain ’80s/’90s tile. Not bad from afar, but wasn’t great quality close up.

During! It’s all a process. Can’t wait to see how this turns out!

Before: The original tile had a strange sheen to it. It looked like tile you would see in a bathroom and was a boring beige. I appreciate the thought of the decorative tile, but the execution was all off!

During: Time for a change!

I’m so grateful to have the Cement Tile Shop on board for this — I could get lost going through all of their options for days! Check out some of my other faves to get a taste of their work (below).

Let me just say, it’s a good thing I’m my own client on this project because all of the design inspiration is in my head for the exterior of the house… and I do not have a mock up!!! A dangerous place, ha!

I can’t wait to show you the COCOCOZY Design House’s brand new walkway and back patio sooner rather than later! Thank you again to the Cement Tile Shop for making it all possible.

xo,
