I’m leaving for Europe in a few short weeks and all I can think about, well besides the yummy food I’ll be eating (calories do not count on vacation we’ve established that already right?) is the architecture I’ll be surrounded by which has led me down this path of contemporary courtyards that I can’t get enough of…they’re fabulous! Whoever decided that courtyards were a necessary part of the home was a genius let me tell you. They are still within the confines of your privacy and your home but they are the extension to the outdoors…they are designed intentionally but also open for nature to do it’s thing and I love that. So many of these contemporary courtyards rely heavily on modern influences…but then you have the exposed brick walls or floors or the tufted chairs and romantic chandeliers and it’s clear that the European character traits are still so present…respected…
Any space that invites the outdoors in is a space I want to be in..plus so many of these courtyards I’ve been seeing recently have featured some sort of steel accent, more on that for another day…for now we’re imagining life in these courtyards as if we were in Spain or France or somewhere altogether romantic, contemporary, modern, but maybe most of all, inspiring.
